Making Good ProgressWe are really pleased with the progress that Beanbag is making. We currently have approaching 1,300 tutors listed on the website from across the UK (at Nov 2009) and we are channeling emails from parents direct to tutors every day.
Our strategy is to build the website into one of the foremost tutor directories in the UK, and to find ways of building a sense of community between tutors. We are investigating ways of supporting tutors enter the market and build their businesses.
Our tutor collaboration website http://tutorhub.org can, we believe, transform the way that tutors share knowledge and we will be promoting it amongst our tutors shortly. We hope that our tutors find the new service useful.

Tutor CollaborationHi. We have a theory that there are lots of people who would like to become a tutor but dont know how to go about it. For example, do they need a CRB check, contracts, where to market and tax implications. We have set up a new website http://tutorhub.org to support collaboration between tutors. Does anyone think that there is anything else we can do to lower the barriers to entry for new tutors?

Hi there, this is Jon at Beanbag.
We do earn some money from the website, in the form of ad revenue and book sales. We do not charge tutors for their listings and we have no plans to do so - we set up the business with the aim of making it easier for independent tutors to do business. We feel that we are beginning to succeed in creating an alternative to the traditional agency route to market.
Our efforts are now being focused on helping independent tutors collaborate, again this is free of charge. Why? Because we think it's a good idea and should make more tutors available to our children - we are parents, and it was our problems finding tutors through 'traditional' means that led us to set up Beanbag.
We are also really interested to hear what sort of additional services tutors would value, maybe you have some ideas?
