Jon Rogers replied on November 26, 2009 00:44 to the problem "Xmarks has detected that you cleared your passwords. What would you like to do next?" in Xmarks:
Hey
Sorry about that. So you've done all the standard steps.
Have you tried using my.xmarks.com to revert to a previous version? Given that you have tried the reinstall, new firefox profile etc, I suspect that your password data has somehow gotten corrupted.
If you'd like to try a couple other options:
1) Use my.xmarks.com to revert to a data set that existed before you started seeing this issue.
2) You could try turning password sync back on, and when it asks the question "what do you want to do next?", tell XMarks to clear your passwords. You'll be starting with a fresh (uncorrupted) set. That could solve the issue.
We'd love to do what we can to get things working for you.
Let us know if these help.

Jon Rogers replied on November 26, 2009 00:01 to the problem "syncing bookmarks bar between safari and firefox" in Xmarks:
I too use Firefox and Safari. When I look on My Xmarks site, i only see one toolbar folder which is called "Bookmarks Toolbar". And it seems to synchronize just fine.
What versions of Firefox and Safari are you running? Do you expect the toolbar folder to have a different name?
Also, you will see a synchronization message when you do the sync with Safari as a short timed popup window. But when Firefox synchronizes, you will not see a message. Also to synchronize on Firefox, you must click the Xmarks icon that is on the bottom right of the browser, not the Xmarks icon that is on your system tab at the top of the screen.
If you've tried all this, and you are still having problems, please send over your browser versions, and Xmarks versions and maybe we can get things straightened out.
Cheers

We support limited import from del.icio.us.
Go to my.xmarks.com
click on the tools menu and choose "Import from del.icio.us"
It will prompt you for the del.icio.us account username from which you'd like to import.
Voila.
The "limited" part is that the bookmarks must be public, and Xmarks will only import 100 bookmarks, the most recent 100.
Hope this helps

Jon Rogers replied on November 25, 2009 23:42 to the question "Error 3 on all installations" in Xmarks:
Error 3 means "something went wrong". We're currently working to make that error message more enlightening. In the meantime, the following steps should clear things up.
* Select Tools→Xmarks→Xmarks Settings... and activate the Advanced category.
* Press the Upload button to Force overwrite of server data.
* When that completes, press the Download button to Force overwrite of local data.
If you have not made a lot of modifications to your local set of bookmarks, you may only need to do a download to get the lastest copy of the data we have stored for you. In both cases, you are essentially telling Xmarks not to try to merge any data, but to simply take all bookmarks from the server (or locally if you do an upload) and let that become your current bookmark set. This will often clean up any corruption that may have lead to the error 3.
If these steps do not solve the issue, please send us the log file (Xmarks Settings → Advanced → Show Log File) and we'll see if we can't figure out what's going on.

After reading the thread you mentioned, i thought i should add the following thoughts...
One user reported this solution...
---
I think the day before you posted your reply, I just nuked my FF3 installation and reinstalled from scratch; everything works perfectly now. You're probably right about the corrupted password store.
---
I realize that this is a pretty extreme solution, but if, in fact, your password data is corrupted for some reason, this would allow Firefox and Xmarks to really start with a clean slate that could solve the problem.
Again, let us know if any of this helps.

Hi there
We've been discussing what might be going on here and we have a couple scenarios but we're not sure.
The reason you got that message is because, somehow, your passwords were deleted locally - either by a Firefox clean up, or another add on, or manually? Xmarks then sees that you (seemingly) suddenly have no passwords and warns you with the message that you've been seeing. If you answer that with "yes", Xmarks will synchronize your new set which includes an empty set of passwords. In other words, your passwords will no longer be available on the server.
One possible solution here is to use my.xmarks.com or the Xmarks client to force a download (instead of getting a new profile).
Does this happen everytime you restart Firefox? Can you think of another add-on or some Firefox setting you may have turned on that would cause Firefox to remove your passwords periodically?
Let us know so we can try to get you back up and syncing.
Cheers

Jon Rogers replied on November 25, 2009 23:23 to the idea "Asks Password Again and Again and Again and..." in Xmarks:
Hi there
Are you running on Firefox? If so, do you have Firefox's "Master Password" turned on? If so, every time Xmarks tries to access a password, Firefox is going to ask you for the master password. To fix this, stop using master password in Firefox (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_pass...)
Another possible scenario is if you are using Xmarks to do password sync and you are on a Mac, and you haven't added your Xmarks PIN to your keychain, you may have to give Xmarks your PIN password each time you get things rolling. Next time it happens, tell the computer to add the password to your keychain.
If neither of these solve your issue, please tell us some more specifics about your setup (operating system, browsers involved, Xmarks version) and we'll see if we can't help you solve the problem.
Thanks
Jon
Jon Rogers replied on November 25, 2009 23:14 to the problem "Wrong sync of bookmarks and folders" in Xmarks:
Hi there
We're sorry that you are having issues. Have you noticed other issues with your browser's behavior? If something happened that corrupted your data set on one or other computer, this might be complicating the whole matter.
Also, Alberto, you mentioned that you run through the wizard each time you try to upload (refresh) your bookmarks. That should not be necessary. If you click on the xmarks icon (bottom right tray for Internet Explorer, or in the bottom right corner of the browser for Firefox), you'll get a settings dialog which will allow you (under the advanced tab) to upload or download your bookmarks. Upload means your sending the data from the computer you are on directly to the Xmarks servers and we'll store them exactly as they come in. We will not try to merge that data with the current set we know about. Download means you'll be pulling the last data we stored for you from the Xmarks servers and putting those bookmarks on your computer.
Often, corruption in the bookmark sets can be solved with the following steps.
