Jonamerica shared an idea in SharedMinds on November 16, 2009 17:25:
Support for regular expression search.I'd love to see regular expression support in the search tool - this would be a huge bonus for those of us who rely heavily on search, and often need to search for "unique" spellings of words.
For example, if I did a search for go*g*le, in a regular expression search, it would return any word that had g, an infinite number of o's, an infinite number of g's, le. This would catch gogle, google, gooogle, goggle, googgle, etc.
This is vary handy for someone monitoring a brand/term with a difficult spelling, and would put all the spelling variates under one search.
Right now SMD supports boolean, so this can be accomplished by using OR and a list of words. But, coming up with all the different probabilities for misspellings can be daunting, considering people may hold down a single key to produce a random sting of a single letter, ie gooooooooooooooooooooooogle
Thanks!

I see that, and am beginning to appreciate it; however, It's taking some getting used to, but I'm finding the drop down menu handing for quickly switching between accounts.
The downside is that, with my heavy usage, the All Accounts option is useless - I miss too many tweets in that view. But am making due with custom searches. (Can't wait until searches can be saved!)
Jonamerica replied on November 14, 2009 00:56 to the question "What's the purpose of the preview pane?" in SharedMinds:
Thanks for bringing everything over to getsatisfaction - I didn't realize this was setup.
Re: Preview Pane
I understand the immediate purpose, and like the concept for quickly viewing links outside of Twitter. But, imo, having the #tag and username tabs use the built in search functions makes much more sense than loading a twitter webpage. Again, that's just my opinion.
Love the ap!

I want to say that I really applaud your efforts to resolve the ongoing issues of excess money.
I see two issues to be overcome with any solution(s). The solution has to get rid of excess cash from all accounts, including so called "bank" accounts - small level accounts with huge sums of cash. Otherwise, you'll just have high level players grab that fancy new elite level and start dumping cash into their account from the "banks."
Second, any incentive that would "encourage those who benefited from 'trilliongate' to give up that money" needs to be available to those who didn't benefit from "trilliongate", or who previously got rid of the excess cash.
Ultimately, the best way to take money out of circulation will be to take a larger cut of the funds during regular game play, not just market and bank transactions. For example, make assassination attempts riskier and take a percentage of the gains/losses.
You really must also take regular maintenance fees for bank accounts on a sliding scale. Otherwise, without a forced elite level change, the "bank" accounts will be around forever.
For example: (and I'm tired, so my math might be off)
1 trillion and above 99% taken daily (990 billion per 1 trillion removed)
1 - 999 billion, 25% take daily (250 million per 1 billion removed)
500-999 million, 0.005% ($5,000 per 500 million removed)
100-499 million, 0.001% ($1,000 per 100 million removed)
You could also charge regular maintenance on the more expensive black market items. I would think it would be costly to maintain Apache Helicopters. I also doubt the supercar is very fuel efficient. Or rethink the blank market entirely. Require players to not only need to arm their spies, but also purchase one-use items, like fuel, bullets, medical supplies, etc. Which would be attack and defence modifiers.
Both of these changes would require planning ahead, not just hoarding items.
Just some thoughts.
A comment on the question "Ucana's ALTS and Puma trying to destroy spymaster and ruin the fun for others" in Spymaster:
Plus - by staying in Puma you're not exactly separating yourselves from other Puma members who laud and defend Ucana's actions.
I can't respect Puma, or anyone in the cell, as long as Ucana is at the helm. – Jonamerica, on September 02, 2009 18:31

I don't think that simply being in PUMA makes you guilty of anything. BUT, I have to ask - why would anyone want to be a member of a cell with a leader as contemptible as Ucana? – Jonamerica, on September 02, 2009 18:27
A comment on the update "Putting order to the chaos" in Spymaster:
"Ucana lost out big too, from being number 1 on that board to moving down it" Oh waaaaa waaaaa. Baby isn't on the leaderboard. I feel so sorry for him now. Gosh - it makes perfect sense why he used an exploit to his, and his cell's, advantage - then when caught started sending out trillions of dollars in an attempt to flood the game with cash, ruining it for everyone, and making iList waste time fixing it all when they could be improving the game.
"Ucana did the game a favor by testing its limits and it will make it stronger because of that." Next time Ucana, or anyone else, discovers a bug like this they should do us all a favor and be a freaking grownup and report it. Then they WILL be making the game better and stronger.
If you walked by your neighbor's house and saw the door open would you walk inside and help yourself to their belongings? Or would you alert them to the situation? It seems to me you're defending someone who's a liar and a cheat and has no principle.
I feel sorry for you. – Jonamerica, on September 01, 2009 17:54
A comment on the update "Putting order to the chaos" in Spymaster:
There's a HUGE difference between using a tool as it is intended and exploiting a bug in the system.
The Directors were clear about merging being okay - see here: http://getsatisfaction.com/spymaster/...
Many of us spoke out against merging, but Brent, an employee at the time, spoke with all of us and ensured us that using the merge feature was legitimate. So, we went forth and instructed our cell how to use this feature.
Merging on its own doesn't allow you to avoid doing any work, and if you pressed the elite button you still lost everything. There was no way to use merging to earn 1000s of millions of dollars, let alone trillions, legitimately.
Please - before you start making accusations - think. If someone found a bug that allowed them to attack a person 20 times without the Element of Surprise warning doing so would be exploiting a bug. Writing a blog post about smart attacking isn't. – Jonamerica, on September 01, 2009 13:32
A comment on the update "Putting order to the chaos" in Spymaster:
People have been exploiting the merge for more than 36 hours, but the money wasn't in the system so widely 36 hours ago. They could roll back, everyone would be back to normal, make the system wide changes to solve the bug, and then deal with the handful of accounts that started this whole mess. – Jonamerica, on September 01, 2009 13:18

A comment on the problem "Mayor glitch when merging" in Spymaster:
What!? "Legit accidents!?" I can't believe you just said that. Everyone was using merging to level and build resources - this is why so many people spoke out against it when it was introduced. People have been using it to build wealth for close to a month now. If it was never intended to be used that way - why create it in the first place. – Jonamerica, on September 01, 2009 00:49
A comment on the problem "Mayor glitch when merging" in Spymaster:
Yeah, when I first learned about merging I felt exactly the same way. http://getsatisfaction.com/spymaster/...
Why they created a tool that basically condones breaking the TOS has always baffled me. If you think about it, the only reason anyone would have more than one account prior to merging is to bank money for the main account, which is against the TOS. If someone was playing two accounts for the fun of playing, then they wouldn't want to merge them anyway!
The way merging was handled was poor as well. The feature was enabled without any announcement. People figured out how to use it while the community at large was ignorant. A few key players were able to level to elite V in a few days because they were already playing a number of alternate accounts.
Now it looks like those players who knew about, and took advantage of, the merge will benefit while the rest of the community loses out. – Jonamerica, on August 31, 2009 23:25

Keith - should we post info here or send an email or DM to someone?
00jon has received a lot of money today, but I've gotten rid of it by buying and selling supercars. Please look at my account and make sure everything is back to how it was at 11pm (EDT, GMT-4). Edit: I have purchased items - but have sold everything and am back to where I should be – Jonamerica, on August 31, 2009 20:42

I think there's only one solution - reset all accounts to how they were 24hours ago - before all the money was released.
Then take a long hard look at the person who started this whole mess and where the money went before this went public.
Reset accounts as necessary.
Many of us play legitimately - just because others took advantage of an exploit it doesn't mean we should all suffer.

I'm curious as to why, if there's a 150 member limit, Delta is able to have 168 members. Is this a bug, or a change in the policy?
