A comment on the question "Check in via email" in Brightkite:
Dave B: All of the SMS commands work via email as well, including notes. – Jordan Running, on May 06, 2008 18:07

Jordan Running marked one of Ernie Ambrose's replies in Brightkite as useful. Ernie Ambrose replied to the idea "Human readable locations - Name and/or cross-street".
Jordan Running replied on May 03, 2008 18:59 to the problem "Search not finding businesses Google Maps knows are there" in Brightkite:
While Brightkite uses Google Maps to show locations, I'm pretty sure it doesn't use Google's business search to find places. I've stumbled across a couple places Google knows about but Brightkite doesn't (a coffee shop that changed its name early last year, for example, Brightkite only knows the old name for, and the ice cream parlor my father opened in March Google knows about already but Brightkite doesn't). I guess the only thing to do is wait for Brightkite to get a more up-to-date database, or wait until they implement some way for us to add our own places.
A comment on the idea "Automatic Check-ins == You Win" in Brightkite:
Actually, Brightkite already supports latitude & longitude coordinates, at least on the web interface (I haven't tried it via SMS). Check it out:
http://brightkite.com/places/3546fcdc...
The last time I tried it it automatically resolved the coordinates to the nearest intersection, but I can't seem to get it to do it again. Or maybe that was just a dream. Anyway, once the API arrives it ought to be easy to integrate with GPS on various devices. – Jordan Running, on May 02, 2008 20:47
A comment on the problem "Verizon support?" in Brightkite:
So Martin, users like myself and texburgher below have been working hard to inform other Verizon users that they can use their *****@bkite.com email address to check in (because we like Brightkite so much and don't want Verizon users to be turned off), but Brightkite staff seems conspicuously reticent to provide the same advice themselves--is there a reason for this that we should know about? – Jordan Running, on May 02, 2008 20:36

A comment on the idea "Need simple way to enter location online" in Brightkite:
I'd like to second this. Google has us all spoiled and I'd really prefer a "onebox" interface. I know it's vastly more complex to implement, but I want to be able to type "Chicago, IL" or "Millennium Park Chicago" or, if I'm already checked in in Chicago, just "Millennium Park," all in the same box. – Jordan Running, on May 01, 2008 04:11
Jordan Running replied on April 30, 2008 21:05 to the problem "Incorrect (perhaps outdated) location information" in Brightkite:
Here's kind of a big location bug: If you enter "Chicago, IL" or "Chicago, Illinois" (via the Places search or via an @ SMS), it automatically assumes you mean the Museum of Science & Industry, whose apparent address is Chicago, IL:
http://brightkite.com/places/29af7ec6...
If, however, you just enter "Chicago" (or @Chicago by SMS) it correctly returns the city itself.

A comment on the question "Howsabout you let me email my photo updates from my phone (or anywhere)?" in Brightkite:
I agree, until Verizon gets its issues worked out you should really have big red instructions for new users that say "VERIZON USERS: SMS *****@bkite.com instead of 80289 until VZW figures its stuff out." – Jordan Running, on April 29, 2008 21:44
A comment on the idea "Automatic Check-ins == You Win" in Brightkite:
Who said anything about the iPhone? Most Windows Mobile phones these days have GPS--acurate to within a few yards--built in. ;) I'm assuming the API, once released, will let those so inclined develop apps that take advantage of various devices' capabilities. – Jordan Running, on April 29, 2008 06:08-
