Using Expandrive 1.8.3 w/ Windows 7 Build 7057Just a word of wise to those of you using expandrive 1.8.3 and using an administrator type account in Windows 7 Build 7057.. turn off your User Account Control. I know something was fixed back in 1.8.2? to resolve the issue, but the problem seems to have crept back in again.

Hi Jeff.. I haven't had a chance to install 1.8.2 till today. I did, but it still failed to create a functional drive share with UAC at it's default settings. I turned UAC off again and it was fine. But then I thought about when you asked if me if my acct was set up as an Administrator so the next piece of info may be helpful to many users who MIGHT have an issue like mine; I reconfigured my user account to be just a standard user account (UAC is left on, in it's default setting) and now I can access the drive share. p.s. if you can't change your account to a Standard User in the User control panel, then you'll need to adjust it manually in Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups (look on the left hand side of the CM screen) -> Users -> (your user acct) -> double click your user, -> Member of -> click Add, -> then type Users in the box, press enter. I deleted the Administator group from the profile just to be sure nothing was conflicting, and then reboot the machine. Note this may just be my particular configuration, but it's worth a shot for anyone else dealing with a testy administrator setup. – Joseph Palmer, on March 13, 2009 22:05

Jeff, I believe I just solved it (and I forgot about this yesterday) I was playing around with user account control and apparently turned it off, and then sometime between my last usage of Expan Drive and now I turned UAC back on. Turning UAC OFF completely solves the problem for me and using Expan Drive.. I'm back in business!! – Joseph Palmer, on March 04, 2009 19:58

Jeff, that is correct, my user account is an administrator. No other accounts were set up on the machine as of yet. – Joseph Palmer, on March 04, 2009 19:53

Jeff is there something else I need to do to get expandrive functional? I just responded to Lloyd's message about his problem with the network location not being available. I tried your suggestion of re-downloading the latest epandrive, installed it, rebooted, tried running, same issue, can't find the network location. Is there a specific way one needs to have their network settings set in order for this proggie to work? The sad thing is it worked just great yesterday and now today it crapped out on me. – Joseph Palmer, on March 04, 2009 19:42

It's funny, YESTERDAY, just yesterday I was up and running without issues using the LATEST beta expandrive as well as Win 7 build 7000. then TODAY i got exactly the same error as you did Lloyd.. then, using Jeff's advice:
1. Uninstall ExpanDrive
2. Reboot
3. Install ExpanDrive - don't run expandrive upon completing installation
4. Run ExpanDrive
It let me install Expandrive, now it complains that it can't open the network location. Is there some other trick or is it just my wonky hardware? – Joseph Palmer, on March 04, 2009 19:39-

FYI - sorry I didn't mention this earlier - using Vista.. anyway, seems to be resolved - I uninstalled ExpanDrive, rebooted, reinstalled ExpanDrive still no go. Reinstalled over existing installation (without rebooting again) - bingo, works like a charm. Although I've been careful not to repeatedly open/close the file for fear of having the same problem re-occur. Nice product, I suppose you have to be wary of where you're connecting as well. I would imagine any sort of glitches in connectivity can cause files to be improperly marked as locked? Anyway, hope this product works out, cause I like it!!!!

Specifically ExpanDrive and Adobe Indesign - can't read files I just created and saved.ExpanDrive & Adobe InDesign CS3 - I can create documents, but can't read the same file I just created ExpanDrive fails - complains "You may not have permission or the document may be open already. For multi-user access, close the file and set the file properties to read-only in Windows Explorer". I do not have this issue with Photoshop, or heck notepad for that matter. btw, using ExpanDrive for Windows, NOT MAC.
