Josh Salcman set one of Josh Salcman's replies as an official response to "When do you plan to offer tutorials in..." in VirtualNerd
Josh Salcman replied on November 18, 2009 21:44 to the question "Is Virtual Nerd Free?" in VirtualNerd:
Thanks for your question, Stephanie. Virtual Nerd intends to offer both free and paid versions of our tutorial service. We're finalizing the details of what will differentiate the two, so I can't share those with you at the moment, but we promise that even the free service will be useful if you need help with key concepts.

Sorry for the confusion! We haven't made the tutorials available to the public yet, but we plan to do so very soon. If you become a fan on Facebook (www.facebook.com/virtualnerd) or sign up for our email notifications on our website (www.virtualnerd.com/contact.php), you'll be one of the first to know when our videos are ready for prime time. Thanks for your interest in Virtual Nerd!

It would be great to be able to preview answers before posting them. This would be especially useful to those of us who sometimes use HTML in our answers. It would be nice to be able to fine-tune formatting before starting the clock ticking on the 15 minute edit period.

Thanks for your question, Jill!
We will be making significant portions of our content available for free, both on our site and on YouTube. There will also be a subscription-based tier of service providing a number of benefits, including:
- A more extensive content library
- The ability to save tutorials for further review and chart one's progress on the site
- The ability to search for tutorials that match up with specific problems in a selected textbook
- And a variety of other enhancements providing greater personalization and depth of content
An individual subscription will provide a student with unlimited access to all features and content within a given subject for a flat monthly fee. We have not yet finalized our pricing structure, but we are committed to providing the most valuable service we can at a price point we hope will be within reach of most families. We will also work with schools to provide discounts to their students in return for their help spreading the word about our service.
One other note: We are currently investigating the possibility of offering a Virtual Nerd for Schools program that would allow schools to provide access to Virtual Nerd for their students.
As we make additional decisions regarding our pricing, we promise to be transparent about them.

Our primary goal in creating Virtual Nerd was to provide a supplemental educational resource. The focus of the site is therefore on helping students with a course they are already taking. If you are interested in using Virtual Nerd as a source for a home schooling curriculum, please let us know. We may consider adding this service in the future.
