Your argument regarding the costs of servers and active online support is indeed a valid one. Still, I am just a freelance writer and was using SLife more as a way of getting some interesting stats, rather than having it add to my productivity (in part because of the missing features of the then-free version). So 5 $ a moth is quite much from my point of view.
Still, I haven't tryied out the new version, mainly because I was disappointed by the pricing system and because I didn't want to enter my credit card info just to do so. SLife might still be of interest and I will keep checking back from time to time. In case your pricing plans change (yearly fee at a rebate would be a small step ahead), I might reconsider. After all, SLife does have great potential and is quite unique, as you pointed out.
Cheers,
jo.

Pricing60 bucks a year? No way. I'm fine with buying this software, but I won't pay for it on a monthly basis.
Should have known something like this was coming.
Well then, good bye and good luck!

Better filter options for Slifes collected dataRight now, only daily or monthly view is possible. Apart from the fact that tracking is still faulty (see keyboard input thread), this limited access of the data is limiting Slifes usefulness.
I would like to see a way of filtering the collected usage data in a customizable way, e.g. accumulated usage time between two dates, quick look at last 5 days etc. Would be really make the data much more useful and accessible.

Great!
PS: Idleness detection setting for the above results:
Active Timer: 5 Mins
SLife: 4 Mins
I think idleness is deductive, meaning once the app detects I'm idle (e. g. no activity in the set amount of time) it should deduct the last X minutes from the active count. Don't know whether or not those apps are doing this.
jotheman replied on December 11, 2008 03:22 to the question "can time typing or mouse movement be used to configure when an app is recording time?" in Slife Labs:
Well, you wouldn't have to "track" the keyboard, just detect keyboard usage. I don't know how other apps do it, but you might take a look at AntiRSI and Active Timer. Both are very simple apps, but they always know whether I'm working or not.
My concern with setting a longer idleness detection period is that it would also result in an uncorrect time count. I use Time Out (after having used AntiRSI for a long time) to remember taking work breaks. Breaks should be deducted from my work time...
Anyway, great to hear that you're working on this issue.

jotheman replied on December 10, 2008 05:10 to the question "can time typing or mouse movement be used to configure when an app is recording time?" in Slife Labs:
Not entirely correct. The answer in German would be "Jein" - meaning YES AND NO. Yes, mouse activity will be registerd and NO, SLife cannot / won't register keyboard usage, even though typing is usually much more certain to be work related activity than just moving the mouse, at least in certain professions.
I could be made optional to choose if one wants to have typing ignored, but generally I don't see why one would do that.
What are the developers thoughts on this issue? Is this by design? Is it a technical issue? And will it be changed / fixed in future versions?

Typing is an activity!According to ethomaz, SLife does only regard mouse movement as an activity.
I do a lot of what I do just using keyboard shortcuts and Quicksilver. I also do a lot of text processing. SLife won't track any of this? Why?
What's the use of trying to track my working hours when working (typing) isn't regarded an activity?
