I can send updates, and they show on twitter ok but I cannot recieve notifications.

I've tried sending ON and checking my settings to be on and all.. but nope, it still not working

If any of the people in this thread happen to be in Italy, it turns out that Twitter's sms service in Italy has been partially suspended due to cost.

By "partially suspended," this means you can still send tweets to update your account from your phone, but you will no longer be receiving tweets.

Here's the link to the official word from Twitter re: Italy.

This is really dumb. I've had this issue for months and been on this list for the same amount of time and all that is posted are new people wondering what's happened to their Twitter connectivity and others suggesting the same steps and then says how strange that it's not working. I'm not getting any satisfaction. I guess Twitter doesn't really care about ironing this all out.

I don't get any response to sending "help". I called Sprint to verify that my account is not set to block any messages or calls, and they see nothing wrong. I have actually deleted and re-activated my phone multiple times, as well as moved it back and forth between alternate Twitter accounts.
This is going to take some back-end fiddling by Twitter techs, I think.

Out of curiosity, do you get a response when you send 'TRACK' or 'HELP' ? And did you get a response 'notifications are now on' when you sent ON?

Yes, mobile notifications are on. The sleep feature is off. Sending "ON" does not return a response. It did until about a week and a half ago.

1. Is your mobile phone notifications set to ON?

2. Do you use the sleep feature (which disables the sending of sms messages at specific hours of the day) and is it possible that your DM was sent during the 'sleep' period?

3. Could you try sending "ON" from your phone to Twitter?

Do you get a "notifications are now ON" response?

I'm using the US number (40404) and I have an unlimited txt plan on my phone, but I don't receive txt from Twitter to my Sprint phone anymore. I deactivated and reactivated my phone in /devices, sent the verification code (which worked), and sent a DM to an alternate account. These were all fine. But I tried sending a DM back and got email notification but no txt on the phone. This all started about a week ago. I do receive txt from other services (Google, Yahoo, phone-to-phone).

mdy, thanks so much for responding. I really appreciate the help you're trying to give me, but it appears it's either Twitter or my Service Provider who has a problem.

In any case, I'm able to post updates via sms, but not through the twitter number, but through a gateway available here in the Philippines.

And I don't have IM defined even from the start, so that couldn't possibly be the cause.

I just wish twitter can offer a solution.

I can feel your frustration. Hope you don't mind if I ask additional questions:

1. Are you able to post updates via sms? If yes, then at least we know for sure that your phone was successfully verified (even though Twitter doesn't send an acknowledgment sms to confirm the verification).

2. If your answer to #1 is yes, do you have IM defined in your account under http://twitter.com/devices, and is it possible that you're still logged in to your IM from somewhere?

I'm asking because it's been my observation that Twitter will send notifications to IM if you're logged in, even if you have SMS defined and even if you specify that you prefer SMS in your sidebar.

One way to see if this could be the cause of the problem is to temporarily delete your IM device (if you do have one) and see if it makes a difference.

If that still doesn't work, then I'm just as stumped as you... 8-(

1. I HAVE been receiving updates from Twitter ever since I registered. However, I stopped it two months ago for the updates are getting quite annoying. But I decided to turn it on again about two weeks ago, and it was working. But after a week, it just stopped sending SMS.

2. I tried EVERYTHING. Texted ON to the Twitter # to no avail. Re-verified my mobile number. Checked if SMS is on on my sidebar and if it's on in the Settings Pane. Nothing seems to have worked, I haven't gotten any replies during reverification and sending ON to twitter. Nope, nada, zilch.

3. It's only Sunday here, and twitter says I've already received 7/250 messages since last night when I haven't even received even one message.

4. I'm using Globe. As I said, it worked before, but it stopped just recently for some inexplicable reason.

Gee. Hope you can help me.

1. Do you mean you've never successfully received anything from Twitter via sms, or do you mean that sms often stops working?

2. Could you kindly share the results when you tried the suggested steps listed above?

3. Is it possible that you've hit Twitter's 250 sms messages per week limit for non-US users? I too, live in the Philippines, and I often hit the sms limit by Thursday, sometimes Wednesday!

4. Which mobile company do you use? I know for sure Twitter works for both Globe and Smart... I'm on Globe myself.

I have this problem too and I've done everything, even spend hundreds of bucks to get it to work, but I have not been getting any replies from Twitter, but my friends have. What gives?

I live in the Philippines BTW
