A comment on the question "Gloss Theme and other Colorful Themes" in Flock:
Thanks - I tried it again and it works fine for me now. I must have caught things during server maintenance. No worries and thanks again! – jtekusa, on November 18, 2009 05:06

I am unable to download any of the Flock themes from http://www.virtusdesigns.net/?page_id...
At first, I was getting an error that a code line was too long which made me think it was a web site issue, but now it just says there is an issue connecting to the server. I will try again later in the off chance this server is down but was curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

Hmm, that is a good thought as I am running under Windows Vista Home Premium - 4GB of RAM as well. Please report back if a new profile resolved the issue or not. Thank you and no worries! – jtekusa, on August 14, 2009 21:37

No, that is not cool (pun intended). Hmm, this is perplexing to me as I am having no issues at all running Flock 2.5.2 on my Dell Studio laptop. Do you have an older system (e.g. P4, non duo core)? I am wondering, too, if it is a conflict with another program on your system (e.g. virus scanner). It is the only thing I can think of that may be the issue here. Oh, I am not a Flock employee, but am an IT tech support guy. I did not mean to belittle your situation and apologize if I came across in that manner.
Computers have gotten to the point of being hard to troubleshoot due to the large variability among systems - both with hardware and software. Hopefully one of the Flock employees will chime in with a solution. Oh, have your tried creating a new profile? Sometimes that is all it takes with Gecko based browsers. :) – jtekusa, on August 14, 2009 18:09
A comment on the problem "Flock using so much CPU" in Flock:
Flock inherently uses more resources due to the amount of add-ins included with Flock that are not included with Safari. The same holds true if you compare resource usage against Firefox. But add extensions to Firefox to make it similar in functionality to Flock and Flock will come out on top. Believe me, I have done test after test as I run a lot of programs and need my browser to be lean. I am using the same extensions I used with Firefox with Flock and Flock not only uses less, but does a lot better job of controlling memory leaks. With Firefox, I watch the resources rise.
My point is that comparing Flock to Safari is like comparing apples and oranges. Yes, they are both browsers but do not have the same functionality (e.g. social add-ins). Good thought, though! – jtekusa, on August 14, 2009 17:29
A comment on the problem "YouTube login not recognized" in Flock:
Thanks for the quick reply and update, Cam. I can wait for the update as I do not use YouTube often. Even if I did, I would wait - patience is a virtue. :)
Thank you again and thanks for saving me having to recreate my profile - didn't get around to that last night.
Take care and have a great day! – jtekusa, on August 14, 2009 17:24

I am running Flock 2.5.2 on a duo core processor (laptop) and am currently using no more than 6% on one core or the other. Have you tried creating a new profile and seeing if this problem goes away? Often times, it is an installed extension. You can isolate the problem by installing one extension at a time until it returns. Then you know which extension it is.
I have ten extensions installed and no issues - well, except the YouTube problem I posted a few moments ago. lol
If it isn't an extension, it may be another software program. At this point, it gets too involved to be of further assistance - too many variables.
I use to do testing for new versions of the Mozilla Suite and SeaMonkey. Also Firefox for a bit. Returned to school to get my Bachelors so have not been testing as much. I am also an IT tech support guy. :)
I hope this helps.
jtekusa replied on August 14, 2009 01:51 to the problem "Flock 2.5.2 is not the same as Firefox 3.5.2 but is the same as Firefox 3.0.13!!!" in Flock:
The main difference between 3.0.13 and 3.5.2 is features once you exclude the security patches. The Flock crew can correct me if I am off base here, but as Evan states Flock has the same security level as Firefox 3.5.2.
I also agree with the Flock team taking their time as I was using FF 3.5.x and had stability issues (e.g. random crashing, not exiting properly). So, I am willing to wait. :)
jtekusa reported a problem in Flock on August 14, 2009 01:47:
YouTube login not recognizedSince upgrading to Flock 2.5.2, the People sidebar does not recognize my login to YouTube. I followed instructions from an earlier post (v2.0.2) which said to go to the accounts sidebar and tell it to forget my YouTube account. I did this and now the People sidebar does pickup/recognize my YouTube icon/status. It still lists YouTube in the "Other People Services" section. Has anyone else noticed or is having this issue? I will try a new profile as I suspect it may be an extension but I have not changed anything since upgrading. Oops - wait, two extensions upgraded today but I had not logged into YouTube since upgrading until now.
Also, I did see something about Flock only recognizing accounts created in YouTube - not by using your google account. I have been logging in via my google account and had no troubles until now. I will look into this as well to see if this clears it up.

jtekusa replied on July 30, 2009 01:49 to the praise "I LOVE FLOCK!!!" in Flock:
Kudos, Johntheone! I am an avid supporter of any Gecko based browser, but found myself liking the Flock browser most of all. I recently did a test by installing extensions into Firefox to make it equivalent to Flock out of the box. Needless to say, FF ate up a lot more resources on my Windows laptop than Flock. What was really impressive is Flock is a pretty fast browser considering all the goodies that have been added in considering some extensions can slow down or impact performance. I am not what most would consider a "social" person on the web, but regardless I find Flock to be an awesome browser whether for work, school, or play!
Like you, I am a proud user of Flock and do my best to advertise on their behalf. Say - how about Flock T-Shirts!?
jtekusa gave praise in Flock on July 30, 2009 01:38:
Flock - not just for socialites!I have always read in reviews that Flock is only for the socially active person. At first I steered away from Flock as I am not that social on the web. But, I finally gave it a try and it quickly became my browser of choice. I am a web master for a local car club, so I use it for work and play. I only have a couple social accounts and continue to tell myself to start a blog. For me, the integrated RSS feed reader is fantastic! Someday I may stretch my online social wings and it is good to know Flock is there to assist me when I am ready. Thanks a bunch, Flock Team!

It does not appear much headway has been made on this unfortunately. Last entry was made two months ago and the response thus far is it works fine on Firefox so what is the problem. Ugh...
Thanks for the info and the update! – jtekusa, on July 18, 2009 06:22

A comment on the question "Importing LinkedIn account to Flock? Is it possible?" in Flock:
Thanks for the update Chris and I hope it is not too much trouble to do this. I am not a "social" bug per se, but am branching out and like the social features Flock provides. As I was looking at the supported services, I noticed Linked-In was not listed and came here to see if this had been addressed. It has and that is good enough for me. I will be downloading and giving Flock a serious look when I get home a wee bit later today. I am hoping if the tools are there in the browser, I will use them more often.
