Blaise Aguera y Arcas' reply to "Does the order in which I upload my pictures matter?" was just promoted to the most useful! jtrpop and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Great question!-- in our early internal builds, there were some random effects from photo order (which was actually not fully controllable), but for the build we're releasing the order in which you add things doesn't matter. The image filenames are always sorted lexicographically (meaning as they'd be if you click by name on the file explorer). That order is assumed to be the 'time' or narrative order. If the photos came from a single camera, they generally will be, since cameras give photos names with increasing numbers in them that sort as you'd expect. In the viewer, you can use the period (',') and comma (',') to move respectively forward and backward through photos in their time order. This is good for action sequences, It's not the same as the spacebar, which moves you through a spatial tour, and 'z', which moves you to previous images you've visited kind of like 'undo'.-

Great work! It looks really crazy with just the point map turned on (P). It also shows the vast improvement in resolution of a consumer grade digital camera compared to a DVD. I agree, Photosynth could be easily made to do this automatically with movies. Imagine recreating a scene from old home movies! – jtrpop, on August 27, 2008 21:44

A comment on the question "Maximum number of images?" in Microsoft Live Labs:
There was an "out of memory" problem when processing 1,700 photos. I didn't see my RAM or HDD out of space though. I reduced the photos to 650 by basically eliminating every other photo and different scenes and got it to work with a 82% synthy rathing. I bet if I had more pictures the navigation would be better and other scenes that didn't link up would with those added pictures. Wish I could selectively add more photos, but that's another idea request. – jtrpop, on August 27, 2008 21:25

Trying to Photosynth Disneyland Main Street USA and it crapped out at 1700 photos, but worked at 650 with 82% synthy rating. I have a similar quad core, 4gb machine.

The ability to selectively add or delete photos to a Photosynth. This way I can remove photos that don't work or are redundant, and add additional photos to make the scene more synthy.

Develop Photosynth for Silverlight.By developing Photosynth for Silverlight, it would work on all platforms and promote Microsoft Silverlight technology.
