Justin replied on October 17, 2008 20:04 to the problem "Blocking regular programs" in Sunbelt Software:
I apologize for the slow response time.
1. Within VIPRE, go to View > Manage Malware > Always Allowed.
2. From here you will be in the “Always Allowed” list, which lists everything you have set VIPRE to ignore, whether it be through an Active Protection popup or a scan.
3. To manually add something to the list, select the “Add” button at the bottom.
4. Now you will have to navigate to the folder of the program you want to allow, which is the first option. If its just a single file, select the third option, Allow files by file name only, and navigate to the specific file. If you are unsure what file or folder to add, just email me back with the information VIPRE flagged, and I’ll let you know what to add.
Once you have added the file, you should see it listed in the Allowed List section and VIPRE should not flag this file or program anymore.
If you need anymore help, just let me know.

Justin replied on October 16, 2008 19:47 to the discussion "VIPRE & Windows Mail and Newsgroups now not displaying" in Sunbelt Software:
Please use the following instructions to disable VIPRE's on access checking monitor.
1. Please open VIPRE.
2. Click on file and then settings.
3. Click on the 'Active Protection tab.'
4. Please uncheck the box that says, 'Check files when they are opened or copied.'
*VIPRE has two different threat detection engines. The scan engine and Active protection. When that feature is checked the scan engine will look at the file when it is copied or opened, much like right clicking on the file and choosing scan now. With this feature turned off, VIPRE's active protection will still monitor for suspicious behavior and known bad programs when the program or file is launched.

Justin replied on October 15, 2008 19:29 to the problem "Scans (Deep & Quick) Cause System To Freeze" in Sunbelt Software:
1. Please open up VIPRE
2. Click file and then settings.
3. Please click on Scan Options.
4. Please find the scan setting labeled Enable rootkit detection.
5. Under quick, Deep system and custom, please uncheck the boxes next to this setting.
6. Once this is done, please click ok at the bottom of the VIPRE interface.
You should now be able to run a scan with out VIPRE freezing when scanning rootkits. We are working on upgrading the VIPRE engine so that in future builds, it will not hang when scanning for rootkits.

Justin replied on September 10, 2008 20:09 to the question "VIPRE doesn't make a scan!!!!!!!" in Sunbelt Software:
Please try running a quick scan. Quick scan will still scan your entire computer, it just uses a different way of scanning.
If you are unable to run a quick scan, please try to run a scan in safemode.
1. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
2. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
3. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
4. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
5. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
6. When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Justin replied on August 07, 2008 18:35 to the question ""Block this startup program" under My PC Explorer" in Sunbelt Software:
"Block this startup program" simply stops the program from loading when your computer does. Yes, it is the same thing as "run, msconfig, startup programs" however, once the action is complete, it can not be undone. "run, msconfig, startup programs" allows you to change it back if you want to. "Permanently remove startup program" does just that, removes the program.

Justin replied on August 07, 2008 18:29 to the question "Scan Time" in Sunbelt Software:
Counterspy's scan times depend on the type of scans that you are doing. Quick scans run much quicker than deep scans and still scan the same files on your computer. Just in a different way. It also depends on your definition files. Counterspy's Definition files are very large now and when you do a deep scan, counterspy scans your computer and then checks the files with the large definition files. Our recommendation is to run a scan when you are not using your computer. This way, it will not tie up your computer while you are trying to do things.

Justin replied on August 07, 2008 18:21 to the question "Firewall prevents Apple Store site from displaying properly" in Sunbelt Software:
1. Open The Personal Firewall.
2. Click on the web tab.
3. Click on the site exceptions tab.
4. Type the following into the field provided.
*.apple.com.
If this does not work, you will have to disable the web filtering all together.
1. Click on the web tab.
2. Uncheck the box that says [] enable web filtering.
This does not mean that you will be unprotected by the firewall. It only means that the firewall will no longer filter out the content of the website you are viewing. (i.e. Cookies, pop-ups, embedded advertisements)
