I also had same problem and worked on it for hours and hours. Finally, I went in and DISABLED the email protection Viper. It was the only way I could send OR receive any mail on my IncrediMail email program. I am hoping they fix this because I was hoping to have Viper protect EVERYTHING on my computer, especially my incoming and outgoing email.

Edsager, Glad it worked out. That's still weird that your machine was churning with the "Check Files when they are Opend or Copied" feature, because the only reason it would churn is that this particular feature (which is very deep in the kernel) would be conflicting with another kernel driver. So you may still have another real-time protection system running without knowing about it.
You may want to let sleeping dogs lie, but ideally, that feature has virtually no impact on your system, so long as nothing else is trying to do the same thing.

Thank you for your suggestions. I already tried the MSI Clean, to no avail. I also tried CCleaner, to no avail.
I finally searched and deleted all references to Lavasoft, Ad Aware, Ad-Aware and Adaware in the registry.
Also, I did as Alex suggested with turning off the "Check Files when they are Opened or Copied."
I also noticed that there were still some traces of Trend Micro and eliminated as many of them as I could find.
Now my CPU is not burdened like before.
Again, thank you,
edsager

Esager, The critical features is the "Check Files when they are Opened or Copied", which tends to conflict with other active protection systems (or vice versa, depending on how you look at it). So if you turn that off, you should see a nice difference.
As regards AdAware, use MSI Clean to see if there's a curropted MSI installer for Adaware,

Justin replied on September 10, 2008 20:09 to the question "VIPRE doesn't make a scan!!!!!!!" in Sunbelt Software:
Please try running a quick scan. Quick scan will still scan your entire computer, it just uses a different way of scanning.
If you are unable to run a quick scan, please try to run a scan in safemode.
1. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
2. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
3. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
4. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
5. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
6. When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

Mike, I think you should put the option in to permanental remove it from the registry OR just stop it from loading. Thanks! The Computer Lady @ Bits, Bytes-N-Beyond – The Computer Lady, on September 08, 2008 13:16
