Turning off "Scan Inside of Archives" brought my Deep Scan time back from 4 hrs. to 1 hr.(about what it had been before the software upgrade). While this workaround makes scan times manageable I look forward to the time when I can go back to scanning inside of archives.

I have experienced the exact same symptoms.

I have the same problem with identical symptoms. Here are a few more details:
(1) SBAMSvc goes to 99% CPU for about 2 minutes the first time wwwDisp.exe is run after a boot of the PC. The washer can be run any number of times after the first without the slowdown.
(2) The 99% usage starts with the execution of Window Washer application - the slowdown happens before any washing operations are started.
(3) Adding wwwDisp.exe to the allowed list does no good.
(4) Disabling VIPRE active protection before executing wwwDisp circumvents the problem. (if active protection is turned back on the problem occurs the first time wwwDisp is run.)

I also have SBAMSvc grab 99% at other times. The one that comes to mind - I selected a file within "MY Computer" and clicked the "Delete" selection on the pull-down menu. 2 minutes later the machine "woke up" and performed the deletion.

I would be happy to turn on a log or trace in order to try to isolate this problem.

Two examples: the current version of Adobe is 9, History Cleaner only goes up to 7; The cirrent version of Firefox is 3, History Cleaner only goes up to 2.
