By the way, I see that this problem topic was merged with a different one on 10/20/09. However, this has nothing nothing to do with songs being deleted from playlists when they deleted from the main music library. This problem is related to playlists (smart and regular) totally disappearing every time you shut down songbird.

I have the exact same problem as described above, except I'm using Ubuntu 8.04. If I create a new profile playlists do stop disappearing, but I don't want to create a new profile because I want to keep my song ratings, play counts, etc. The Playlist Export Tool doesn't work for me because it doesn't seem to like song data with Chinese/Japanese characters. I would greatly prefer to continue using my existing profile.

By the way, I've disabled all my add-ons (and there were not very many to disable) and that did not help.

A question--Is there any way to access the songbird database and clear out all the stale playlist data? I was fooling around with the Playlist Export Tool the other day and I was somehow able to access a list of my old playlists (there were over thirty due to me having to create them over and over again). I have a feeling that if I clear out all the old playlist information maybe things will start working normally again?

I think that this is a really great idea--being able to influence song play frequency based on user assigned ratings. To be able to customize the weighting algorithm would be an even bigger plus (E.g. make 3 star songs 10x more likely to be played than 2 star songs, 4 star songs 50x more likely, 5 star songs 100x, etc.). BTW, the feature suggestion link posted above (i.e. http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...) seems to be dead...
