A comment on the question "Beginning (or ending) balance from last reconcile is incorrect. What do I do?" in The Infinite Kind:

If you really want to make a change in the balance, the way to accomplish that it to make an adjusting transaction with the adjusted amount as a deposit or payment and with the transaction cleared.

As long as you zero out the payment - financially - it doesn't matter what you do, however I set up an expense category: VOID ** VOID **

The 1st void check you come up with - use something like VOID: in the description, then the next time u enter a void - probably entering voi will bring up your "void template" check, its almost as automatic as a special option to void a check.

When u reconcile - just mark them as cleared like other cleared checks.

no - I don't got it! What report do you use, so I could see how putting the differentiating info in the split description field wouldn't display in the by category list. But you completely ignore my point that by ADDING an additional memo field for each split is a significant change, especially since we know that Sean has a difficult time getting to easier modifications. – Katahdin, on February 15, 2009 18:10
