Dallas Brown replied on October 06, 2009 03:47 to the problem "iDeskCal a ripoff" in HashBang Industries:
Jacqueline, I apologize for the trouble.
I also apologize that your emails were never responded too.
I just double checked and we did not receive an email from anyone with your name, and have responded to all the emails we have.
Not to say that you didn't send one, just that we did not receive it for whatever reason.
We posted about this a couple of times over the last week or so on our blog (http://www.hashbangind.com/blog/), but apparently Mac OS 10.5.8 has a bug in Apple's Calendar code that causes Apple's calendar libraries to eat up all the system resources when accessed by a 64-bit application.
It does not happen across the board to all users running 10.5.8 and 64-bit calendar applications, but seems to be with large or at least "larger" calendars.
This is something that we wish would have effect someone during the testing of version 2.2, but unfortunately it didn't...
The work around for this is to tell iDeskCal to run in 32-bit mode, or simply to update to the newest version that tells iDeskCal itself not to run in 64-bit mode but instead 32-bit mode on 10.5.8.
Once again I highly apologize for any and all trouble and inconvenience this has caused.

I am guessing you saw that in Macworlds article on iDeskCal.
That is actually not a function of iDeskCal but a program called WeatherCal.
iDeskCal just "plays well" with WeatherCal.
I have included a link to a Macworld review of WeatherCal.

I highly apologize for the inconvenience.
This bug in Apple's 10.5 calendar code is indeed frustrating.
We highly wish it would have shown up in our pre-release testing of 2.2, however the bug does not happen across the board.
We had to be sent a users calendar database to be able to duplicate the issue and find the cause.
We will be releasing an update within the next day or two that will tell iDeskCal not to run in 64-bit mode on 10.5, so this doesn't show up again, and we will be sure to keep this other calendar database on hand to test against for future releases.

Daniel, could you open iCal and double click on either of the two that are showing doubled above, and click on the Edit button and take a screen shot of the Edit window? – Dallas Brown, on September 28, 2009 16:49

The steps to disable/enable the font shadow can be found at: http://hashbangind.com/ideskcal-faq.php
It is currently the last FAQ on the page, and has just been updated with extra info for Snow Leopard.

Dallas Brown replied on September 22, 2009 17:45 to the question "Does not open at Login" in HashBang Industries:
There is a known issue with the with the way Apple has 3rd party applications start on login, that causes iDeskCal to not start on login for some users.
Many users have noted that the following work around solved this issue for them:
1. Open iDeskCal's preferences and make sure 'Start on Login' is unchecked
2. Drag the iDeskCal application from your Applications directory into your Dock
3. Once in the Dock, do a secondary click (Option-Click or Right-Click) on the iDeskCal icon in the Dock, and select 'Open at Login'.
iDeskCal should now start at login! You can now either leave iDeskCal in your dock, or simply drag it out of the Dock to remove it from the Dock.
We are looking into a way to make sure the standard method works for everyone.
