SPF performance & memory leak issuesI bought VIPRE & SPF together a month or so ago. I love VIPRE. SPF has significant problems.
* SPF doesn't seem to be very good at creating rules - it asks multiple (as in, dozens) of times for the same connection, same port, same app, even when I click "create a rule" every time
* SPF creates significant drag on my broadband, so much so that for the past week, I left it disabled (but still running in my sys tray, so that I could enable it if desired). This led to....
* With SPF disabled but running, my internet became incredibly flaky. Clicking on links would get me 404's or even 408's; I click reload, and voila. I've reset routers and modems to try to fix this problem. I did not consider SPF to be a problem until...
* My system has been really laggy. I checked mem use today, and kpf4ss was taking about a gig and a half of RAM. To run disabled.
* I've also noticed that just over the last few days, VIPRE has been taking about 8 hours to finish a scan (instead of the two it was taking a few weeks ago).
* Once I killed kpf4ss and removed it, I got my computer and my internet back. I suspect Vipre will go back to 2 hours per scan now.
As nicely as I can say it - SPF is as bad as VIPRE is good. I would love to get a refund (for SPF only). I can accept that a firewall can slow internet performance - SPF does it too much, I think, but that's an opinion. However, leaking over a gig of RAM when the product is DISABLED is just flat-out broken. To compare, I have had SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle actively running on this system at THE SAME TIME and nothing has brought it to its knees or consumed resources like SPF. An impressive feat, no doubt, but pretty much the opposite of why I invested in the product.
It turns out, acquisitions can actually be more expensive than homegrown...

Ok, now this can't install either. Your gut was right.
It did install a couple of weeks ago, because I set it up at the same time I set up my VIPRE trial. I uninstalled it because 1) I couldn't figure out how to tell "simple" mode to let me wireless printer work and 2) http://support.sunbeltsoftware.com/De... said that I would have to uninstall and reinstall to get advanced mode working. I didn't bother to try to reinstall until this week (after I decided to purchase it, of course).
Now it will not install. I haven't installed anything else on my system or made system changes since the install that worked. I'm running VIPRE, but I even turned that off before the last attempt.
So even after multiple cleanings and reboots, this won't install. I would like to get it working. Barring that, I guess I will settle for a refund. But I'd like it to work. Is there any way to install via the command line that generate a log that you guys can look at? The error looks like an unhandled error in the installation code.
Thanks.

I downloaded both, ran the cleaner tool and then ran the install.
Same thing.
I'm running XP Pro SP3 as the admin.
It installed in simple mode, but not in advanced mode.
I am not able to run a version of SPF, but I tried running the install of the one you sent me - 4.6.1861.
Please let me know what else to try.
Thanks.

SPF Installation ErrorIt installed in beginner mode on my XP Pro machine, but I had to uninstall because I needed advanced. I rebooted & all, and now it won't install in advanced mode. It gets to a status that starts with "registering firewall", pauses, and then a captionless dialogue pops up with "ERROR: INSTALL_ERROR". Then it rolls back everything and exits.
Any info would be nice, because I just paid for it today assuming it would work. My mistake!
I also already contacted tech support via e-mail, but haven't gotten any response (I sent e-mail before opening this morning).
