You can do everything you're asking by tagging individual items with multiple tags.

remember to Determine amount of wood required @wood_project2 @computer
remember to Call Lumber store @wood_project2 @"Phone calls"
remember to Buy lumber @wood_project2 @errands

Tags can be used to make an item part of two different lists. My example uses the tag @wood_project2 to group all the items in the project together. The tag "wood_project2" will appear in the tag cloud. You can click on it and all the items with that tag will appear. You can have multiple projects, each with items tagged with @"phone call" or @computer, etc. Click on the "computer" tag and it will list all items of all projects that have the "computer" tag.

A tag can contain spaces, but then you have to be careful to put all the words of the tag in quotes. Your example has the tag @Phone calls. But this won't work. You'd have to type @"Phone calls".

You can also use the "remember +" power move to create all your items at once as if they were a list. All *tags* on the first line are *added* to all items in the list. All text and dates on the first line are *replaced" by any text or date in a list item. (See http://iwantsandy.com/lists ) The following example creates the same items as the example above. (Although I use the tag "wood working project2" instead of "wood_project2")

    remember @"wood working project2" +
    * Determine amount of wood required @computer
    * Call Lumber store @"Phone calls"
    * Buy lumber @errands

    Ability to create a "project"
I think Sandy should have a "Project" type. Like "Appointment" and "List" and "Note", etc. Sandy is great at creating appointments and tasks, etc. She can even group these tasks together by using a tag. But that's as far as it goes.

People want lists to do more. There have been many requests for lists to be extended, such as to have a checklist, a list of todo items that get checked off one by one, and to be able to tag individual items in a list, etc. I think that these requests can be solved by making a new "project" type. A "project" is a list that can do more.

My idea is kind of a cross between a list, a tag and a note. A "project" would be a collection of other individual items, kind of like a tag is now. A "project" would also be a list. It would be able to assign an order to the tasks it contains. A "project" would also be a special kind of a Note, it would contain information about the project like a goal, status of sub tasks, etc.

    Differences from a "tag":

    1) Projects should have some way of providing an overview of the status of the project. I call this the "project overview". It contains a list or edit box to manage tasks. The project needs to be able to assign a sequence or an order to the tasks it contains. In other words, it can define a relationship between the tasks it contains.

    2) Whenever an item in a project is changed, or updated, the "project" is updated. This lest the project maintain control over all sub tasks. Each item in a project has a link back to the "project". When the item in a project is updated, the project is notified.

Every item in Sandy can have multiple tags, but can only be a part of one "project". (I just think that would make it easier to implement.)

    3) Should projects be allowed to use most tags? Does it make sense for a project to be tagged @todo or @weekly, when a task in the project can be tagged as todo or repeating? Should a project show up in the Daily Digest, or just the tasks n the project? (How about the "Recently Updated" list at http://iwantsandy.com/list does this show projects or just the itmes in the projects?)

    4) There could be a separate display page for projects and a separate url http://iwantsandy.com/projects

    Uses of a project.

    1) Ability to define an *ordered* set of tasks.
    2) Ability to add relationships between tasks.
Example: Can make some tasks dependent on other tasks.
2b) Can have task dates dependent on other task dates.
Example: task #2 needs to be completed 2 days after task #1 finishes.
When the date for task #1 is changed, then task #2 is automatically updated.
    3) Changing any item in the project updates the project.
Example: Marking a task "@done" can trigger an action in the project. (Like marking another item "@todo")
    4) Able to create a true "checklist", a *list* of items, that can be viewed in order, and tagged as "@done" individually.
    5) any item in the project list can be tagged independently (something lists cannot do)
    6) Have the ability to organize information about sub tasks. You can know how the project is doing, what step is currently being worked on, what still needs to be done etc.
    7) Ability to manage a project, not just list items with a tag.

There has been talk about doing more with lists. It's just talk at the moment.

    1) Could there be a way to somehow assign an order to todo items in a project? (So they don't all appear at the same time in your DailyDiegst page.)

Maybe when you mark one "done" then the next one will automatically be marked as "todo". (sometimes called a sequential list, sometimes called a dependency list. Because subsequent todo items are dependent on the previous todo item being completed.)

    2) Could a list be modified so that it somehow became a "project" or that the items in the list would become full todo items at some later point?

    3) Could it be possible to somehow "bind" all items in a project together with more than just a tag? Could all the items know that they're part of a project and have a reference or link back to the project "overview". The project "overview" would contain links to all the parts of the project, the sequence of the items to be completed, etc. (Maybe the significance of each part, maybe an estimated time line, etc.)

You've got it. Creating a "project" means creating a set of individual items that share a common tag.

Using a tag is like creating a "virtual" list. Everything with that tag is added to the list. Actually, maybe "list" isn't the best word to describe it. It's an unordered set of items, not a "list" at all. And that's it's biggest problem.

There is a slightly better way to *create* a project. You can use the "remember +" power move. Although this results in the same thing, a set of individual items that share the same tag. (See http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy... ) Your example is easy, add a plus "+" to the end of the first line in your first example. "remember @jobsearch +"

By the way, you can add notes and other items to your projects. Contacts. etc. This might be convenient. (Example: a contact for the consultant, a note with instructions on how to update your resume, phone numbers, etc.)

You might not want to tag all the items in your list as @todo at the same time. This will add all the todo items to your daily digest page. As if you wanted to do them all today, at the same time. Sometimes you might want to do one thing in your list first, then mark it as @done, then select another item from your list and then tag it as @todo. etc. (Thereby imposing an order on the todos in your project.)

As far as I know, this doesn't exist. Although I wonder if a being able to perform a negation search would solve your problem. (Imagine a search for everything that is NOT tagged as @todo, etc) People have been asking for boolean search operators, I think that negation search operators should be added too.

#1 The search box on Sandy's website
    > !@todo
    > NOT @todo

    #2 Through email
    > lookup !@todo

1b) Currently the best way to search for something in your communication with Sandy is to create your own list. Turn on the option to have Sandy send you an email confirmation for everything. (These are called "email replies". http://iwantsandy.com/settings/email ) You might want to do the same thing for Jott and Twitter. Have your email account filter these emails (add a tag, move to a folder, etc.). Then you'll have your own list. – kevin1, on July 20, 2008 04:50

    kevin1
Here's the two urls you mentioned in your question. (As you find more, would you post them?)

    1) Is there a list of all emails I sent to Sandy?

Yes. Not just emails either. Jotts and text messages too. It also includes all emails that Sandy sent to you. See this link. http://iwantsandy.com/email

1b) Is there a way to search through this list of emails?

Unfortunately, no. Although it would be really handy. (Among other things, we could search for the string "couldn't find anything you asked me to do" to find when Sandy wasn't able to understand something we sent her.)

    2) Are there other RSS and calendar feeds available?

Yes. There is one main RSS feed and two calendar feeds, but they can be customized. The main RSS feed is http://iwantsandy.com/list.rss but several others can be created. (Note: the way this works may change as Sandy is updated.)

http://iwantsandy.com/list.rss?type=b... is an rss feed consisting of only bookmarks.

http://iwantsandy.com/list.rss?type=b... is an RSS feed consisting of only bookmarks that are tagged with "camping".

You can create customized calendar feeds as well. Although make certain to use the right base calendar address. There are two addresses. The password protected feed (http://iwantsandy.com/list.ics ), and your private calendar feed (http://iwantsandy.com/_secret_code_/l... ).

    Example:
(Note that "secret_code_" needs to be replaced with your own secret code. A random string of letters and numbers.)
    http://iwantsandy.com/_secret_code_/l...

I think this is a great idea. There are a lot of undocumented features in Sandy. The only way to really know them all is to spend a lot of time reading GetSatisfaction.

I think we should add all these to a FAQ. (See Rael's suggestion about making a FAQ. http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy...)

kevin1 replied on July 20, 2008 04:06 to the question "Multiple email addresses?" in I want Sandy:

    kevin1
I've heard that people have found a couple ways to workaround this limitation. They both involve having an email address that can use email filters and forwarding.

    1) Set up a separate email account specifically for Sandy. This will be "her" email account. Make this account either the primary or secondary address that Sandy recognizes. Make a special name for it, maybe something like - YourFirstName.YourLastName.assistant@... (gmail is a good choice)

1b) If you already use an email address that can use filters and forwarding then you can use it instead of creating a new one.

2.) Set up filters on your email account. Make it so that emails from your various accounts will get forwarded to Sandy; and that emails from Sandy can be redirected to your other accounts. (This second part can get tricky, unless you simply forward everything to all of your other accounts.)

2b) You can also set up a filter for your cell phone, so you can send Sandy text messages. The test messages will get converted to an email by your carrier, and then sent to the "Sandy email account", which will then forward the email to Sandy.

Your cell phone's email address will be in the form of (your ten digit cell number@(carrierspecific domain)). (For example: Alltel: 4173490000@message.alltel.com Verizon: @vtext.com) Create a filter, choose "filter by - From:phone_email_address". Then set the filter to Forward all emails that match that description to Sandy.

    3) From whatever email address you use, send your Sandy requests to the email account that you set up in step #1. (first.last.assistant@gmail.com)

    4) This isn't a perfect solution. Replying to emails that Sandy sends may be a little problematic. You might have send a new email. Let us know how it works for you.

Ability to search for a reply, not a topic
I'd like to be able to search through all posts, unrelated to thread topics.

As far as I can tell, the search feature only searches through the text and tags in a thread topic. Is there more search options that I'm not aware of? I'd like to be able to search through all replies and comments for a particular product.

Can you add more search options?
    --------
    * search through all posts authored by a particular person
(Example: It would be wonderful to be able to search for a reply that I made months ago.)
    * search through all posts in a set of threads
(This might be easier to implement than full search through all posts, below.)
(i.e. search through all threads that a particular person has participated in , or is following)
(Example: search for a post in some thread that I know I've participated in.)
    * search through all posts (well, all posts for that company or product)

I'd like to find replies that I've read once, but forgot where they are. It's so frustrating to not be able to find it again because I've forgotten which topic it was in reply to. The reply might only be marginally related to the topic of the thread the reply is in. It might be the best response in the world, but if it was at all off-topic then I'll never be able to find it again. Quite often, interesting posts address a broader idea than the topic does, an idea the thread creator didn't consider. So the topic might not have many keywords in common with what the reply addressed. And what keyword it does have is shared among 30 other threads.

I'd like to refer back to these replies, and point others to them, but I have a real hard time finding them again. Even if I remember the topic of the thread the reply is in, I still have to manually search through several threads with similar topics to find the particular reply I'm looking for.

Some people are known for giving good advise, I'd like to be able to search for anything they said about a particular idea. Right now, I'm forced to go to their profile page and manually search through every "page" of replies that they've posted. (maybe 12 or 20 or 40 pages) Isn't there an easier way to do this? (I also have to do this for replies that "I've* written previously. I don't remember what thread they were in.)

Another option is to "tag" these replies, mark them as useful. I know that this option already exists, but there seems to be a problem. It's unclear what to do when the reply doesn't fit with the type of "tag" that's available. The useful reply may be very interesting, but it doesn't necessarily "answer the question", or "solve the problem". Instead it might tell you who to ask or where to look or other options for getting more information on the question, or a workaround to the problem.

I found the lack of search options annoying and I thought it needed it's own thread. I found a great collection of ideas from (http://getsatisfaction.com/satisfacti... ) so I started with that and extended it. I tried to show why each option was necessary and give it a name and a description that was easy to understand.

I hope this idea will solve problems that people have been complaining about. (And that I found annoying.) For example: Company employees need a way to find threads that the company hasn't replied to yet., etc.

    More search options
Can you add more search options to the drop down box? (Along with "recent activity", "most popular", "latest activity", and "unanswered".) Also, how am I supposed to reverse the sort order of the current search options? (How can I have the search for "most popular" be in reverse order, so it would really be "least popular"?)

    More search options
    ----
2.1. "unpopular" (i.e. "not popular", "0 popularity") - topic and all replies are authored by a single person. (1 person participating) This is the kind of the reverse sort order from "most popular", except that this search limits the results to threads with 1 person participating.
2.2. "no company involvement" (all additions / questions / comments are from non-company users) (i.e. "0 employees helping")
2.3. "unsolved" (could also be called "unanswered") A thread with 0 "solutions" or "good points" (i.e. a Problem with "0 replies marked as a solution", a Question with "0 replies marked as an answer", an Idea with "0 point marked best", a Discussion with 0 points marked ...)
2.4. "solved" (Reverse of above. Something was flagged "solved" recently, which you want to review again. :))
2.5 "in progress" or "working on it" -- topics that are currently being implemented or changed by the company (i.e. Problems marked as "The company is working on this problem", Ideas marked as "The company is working on this idea", Questions marked as "The company is working on this question", )
2.6 "most replies" (This is kind of the reverse from "0 replies" see below, except that "0 replies" limits the results to threads with a particular number of replies.) Note that "most replies" is not the same as "popular". "Popular" refers to how many people are participating, not the number of replies.
2.7 Also, you might want to rename "unanswered" to "0 replies". (The word "unanswered" can have multiple meanings and is confusing. It may mean that it is an "unanswered question" (unsolved, does not include an "answer" although it may have a reply) or that it is "unanswered by a company employee")

I think an actual "todo" type used to exist. There was some problems with this and the implementation changed. The guide simply hasn't been updated.
