making it possible wouldn't be much hassle even for an average programmer and even without google chrome's plugins api, as long as there was an external app which processed chrome's profile files related to bookmarks, etc and sent it to (fo)xmarks server and vice versa using it's api,
unfortunately i'm not even a beginner as a programmer :(
but i'm sure there's a lot of good ones out there with a slice of good will:)

i posted similar idea on official forums but i was more into ability to sync individual bookmark folders with delicious
approach would be slightly different: assigning specific delicious tag to a bookmark folder
there wouldn't be a need to sync all bookmarks, just specific folders

at first i was upset about this but now i think it's good the way it currently is
it's sometimes slightly frustrated but Fabio is right - it has to be that way
you could alway use for example tineye.com to find other sites that host the image and even find it in a better resolution
