Kieran replied on October 31, 2008 17:49 to the idea "Buttons - Action and Objects" in Flypaper:
I like this idea as well. Right now we are thinking about handling default buttons in a different way. If you add the FlyPlayer to your story it has built in buttons for "back, next, rewind, pause, mute, and volume control." Before making next and back default settings for buttons, we thought we would give people the ability to skin, size, position the FlyPlayer, and select which buttons they want to include on the FlyPlayer.
I'm anxious to get feedback from people on whether they would rather have a FlyPlayer to customize first -- or a default set of buttons to add to each page?
Thoughts?

Kieran replied on October 03, 2008 19:32 to the question "To close the .exe window" in Flypaper:
Sorry if I misunderstood the issue. Right now we do not have a button that will close the "exe" window. I'll put it on the list of requested components. Believe it or not, this functionality is a little more difficult than it sounds.. it will be a while before a button like that would be available.
As a workaround, I would suggest creating a button that then shows a text field that tells users to press Esc. or Alt+F4 to close the window. Not as clean, I know, but it could work for now.
Thanks for the suggestion. It's a good one.

Kieran replied on October 01, 2008 20:28 to the problem "To see local Story save as EXE" in Flypaper:
If you save as a Web Story and try to just click index.html or main.swf on your computer, you will only get a blank screen. A web story has to be run from a web server or the content will not show.
Flypaper recommends that if you want a local copy to run, save as an .exe file.
Details:
Why? Security settings. We are tracking the interactions in the Web Story, so we are sending information back to flypaper.net from that Web Story. Running a swf on a local computer and sending information back to a web server is a favorite trick among hackers, and Adobe Flash and Windows have security settings in place to block that communication. Normally, clicking the index.html file or the main.swf would pop open a security dialog from Adobe warning the user about the security hazard and offering options. Unfortunately, there is a bug right now that prevents that dialog from Adobe appearing on the user's computer. Instead there is just a white screen and no messages. The bug may be in the browser, or in the Flash Player, or in the Flypaper runtime. To date we have not been able to find the exact cause.
Our solution is to save as an .exe file. This will play the content on the local computer without the security blocks.
You can also just use the File/Preview/Web Browser settings to just preview from Flypaper in a web browser at the resolution of your choice.
Finally, the last and most geeky solution of all, is to follow Adobe's steps to add the story folder to your trusted web sites.
1) Run the index.html
2) Right-click on the white screen and choose Settings. (the Adobe Flash Player settings dialog should appear)
3) At the bottom of the dialog, Select the second icon from the left (the screen with the eyeball)
4) The privacy settings come up. Click the Advanced button. A browser should open to: http://www.macromedia.com/support/doc...
5) On the left side click Global Security Settings Panel (3rd menu item from the top). You should be taken to: http://www.macromedia.com/support/doc...
6) Click the Edit Locations list.
7) Select Add Location. A dialog with choices to Browse for files... or Browse for folder... appear.
8) Click Browse for folder... and find the folder with the Flypaper Story output, and click OK
9) The folder path appears in the bottom of the Settings Manager dialog with a green check under the heading: "Always trust files in these locations:"
10) Click index.html again, and the content should appear.
You may have to repeat these steps for each new folder you create.
We know this is a pain, and we are working on a better solution.

Kieran replied on September 26, 2008 15:51 to the idea "Rollover Button" in Flypaper:
I suggest you try the image scroller component. You could add all the toolbar images in a horizontal or vertical row. The image scroller has an action of show/hide./ When you click any image in the image scroller it will show the objectcs you select in the list, and hide all the objects that are shown by all the other images in the image scroller.
So it would not be a rollover, but it would get rid of the need to click twice (once to show and once to hide).
We realize these are workarounds, and we are working on improving buttons.

The old forum is now available at:
http://forum.flypaper.net
Note: You cannot post questions in the old forum, it is simply a reference to all the previous answers. We have moved what we think are all the key posts here to getSatisfaction.com. If there are old posts that you think should be on the new site, please let us know, and we will copy them over.
Kieran replied on September 25, 2008 20:09 to the idea "Rollover Button" in Flypaper:
You can create the same effect now by creating a graphic. In the properties of all of our buttons there is an "Customize Button States" link. This opens a small dialog in which you can add any image you like to any of the button states - Active, Mouse-over, Mouse-Down. You could change the image in the Mouse-over state to be whatever you want to show on the rollover. I have seen people build the content they want to show in Flypaper and get a screen shot to show on rollover of a button.
Steps:
1) Create what you want on a blank page in Flypaper.
2) use "alt+print Scrn" button to take a screen shot.
3) Open Paint.
4) Crop the image in Paint and Save it as a JPEG.
Add the new image to the Mouse-Over item on your button.
We know this isn't as easy to build as other interactions in Flypaper, and we have plans to make it easier in the future. But this works for now, and can give you the same effect.

save as video broken
We are still working on why this codec does not install correctly the first time on all machines. We will post when we have a better answer. In the meantime, this is a very quick download and install (less than 4 minutes).
Kieran replied on September 19, 2008 17:55 to the question "Export as..." in Flypaper:
If you export to a video -- you will get just that a video file. it will not retain the button clicks or interactions, and the animations will be converted to movement on the video. Due to data rates and other settings, some animations will look great on the video and others may become choppy or blurry. It's best to avoid animations with large images when your goal is to create a video. Dissolves and scales generally work better on video than moves or wipes, but it may take some trial and error.
While you will lose the interactions, you can click on the story while it is in the Screen Recorder window, so your can act like a typical user of an interactive Story, and the video will follow your interactions. It's easier to do than describe. Just click while it is recording.

Can you send us a couple of URL's to your webserver? In the 1.01 update the local preview of Web stories would not work. This is due to the security settings and Flash. But all of the stories you publish to a webserver should be working, and we are anxious to work with you to solve this issue.
Thanks

Kieran replied on September 15, 2008 20:28 to the problem "Cant upload" in Flypaper:
Did you update to the new Flypaper version 1.02. If you are unsure you can check Help/About Flypaper and it will list the version number. I suspect you are still on version 1.0 or 1.01.
With the 1.02 release, we updated our servers and the older versions will not allow you to upload, download, register or login. The 1.0 and 1.01 versions are pointing to the old servers which we have decommissioned.
If you have not updated, you can use Help/Check for Updates to get version 1.02.
Thanks
