A comment on the problem "Comcast Pixelation issues (again)." in Comcast:
I'm no technician, but my guess is you are getting a weak signal from the provider into your house, which is a problem probably compounded by having it split between two sets. Could also be the Charter HD box is more tolerant of weak signals than the TiVo one. Have you tried disconnecting the Charter box and checking if this improves the reception with the Tivo?
Fortunately for us we get good over-the-air reception of local channels and don't watch much that is exclusively on cable, save for an exceptionally good series like Madmen, so we cancelled our cable subscription and will rent whatever when it becomes available on DVD. – kito, on November 24, 2009 00:39

Decided we didn't need those channels anyway and since the digital over the air quality in image and sound is actually better than that offered by cable, decided to cancel our service with Comcast. For cable-only series or movies we may want to see in the future, we're patient and will rent them when available.

Well, after two months of being told by Comcast customer service that the channels I wasn't getting on the DTA were on some other tier (meaning I would have to rent their more sophisticated box) yesterday suddenly the DTA is receiving all those channels (who know for how long), and for the moment pixelation and loss of signal problems on the box have ceased. All day Saturday AMC had no signal. So it turns out it was a technical problem with Comcast, nothing to do with tiers inaccessible by the DTA, nothing to do with my connections inside the house. Why couldn't customer service simply say "we're having technical problems, sorry about that, we're working on it"? Why the lying? Why the utter contempt for customers?
Anyway, given the quality (actually better quality of sound and image) of the over-air-channels we now get with the conversion to digital broadcasts (and with the cheapest rabbit ears antenna we could get), we decided to forgo cable and satellite altogether, and stick to our local channels and rent on Netflix or elsewhere the extremely few cable-only series we might be interested in when they become available in the rental market. Good ridance.

As indicated in my message, I am in the 94602 zip code. That information should be enough for you to tell me what channels I should be getting on the DTA box with a digital package that used to be expanded basic. And according to material sent to my home before I decided to continue with cable and order the DTA, I would be getting the same channels "and more!" with the DTA. And anyway, still waiting for response to email sent to you people, specifically Mr Detreon_Roberts@cable.comcast.com, several weeks ago.

kito asked a question in Comcast on October 22, 2009 18:40:
Comcast Cable TV runaround: DTA doesn't get channels it shouldI have in front of me the Comcast brochure I received on the mail before the digital switchover announcing said switch and informing me that with the DTA adapter provided by them I would be able to get the very same channels I was already getting with my expanded basic plan, plus a few more. Got the DTA and a Motorola box, installed them, but basically the only channel I am really interested in, AMC (because of Madmen) is only viewable on the tv with the Motorola box, not on the tv with the DTA. Also not viewable on the DTA other channels such as FOOD, A&E, F/X etc. that I used to get with expanded basic. When I contact Comcast, I am told those channels are now on some kind of different tier that the DTA has no access to, but when I ask for a list of channels viewable through the DTA I get a list that includes precisely those channels I cannot get. When I ask why can't I get those channels, I am told they're now on a different tier, so I ask again for the list of available channels on my DTA, and so on and so on. I am in 94602 area of Oakland, CA.
I just need a simple public answer. Are those channels viewable through the DTA for Oakland, CA residents, or not? Was the brochure then deceitful? Or is the DTA I got from Comcast defective?
Used to be one reason to keep cable and not go to satellite tv was avoiding the hassle of setting up a separate box for each tv. That motivation is no longer there.
