Tom Klein replied on July 21, 2008 08:01 to the problem "Fail to claim my blogger blog" in outbrain:
Good question :) I didn't want to get into too much detail to make things simple - but no, just removing the warning to achieve claiming would not solve the problem. If (for example) your problem was just the claiming process, we could have completed it manually on our servers.
The problem is that the way our system works, it would be simply unable to identify ratings coming from your blog as belonging to your blog (to do that, it needs access to your blog and its RSS feed). So even if you did have a claimed blog and had access to your reports, they would be empty.
Therefore, unfortunately, there is no easy solution for this problem as of yet. However, I'm pretty sure though that we will overcome this problem soon enough :)
So, until then, I hope you still enjoy our widget in all your blogs!
If you want to be added to a notify list when a fix for this problem is released, send me a note at tom[at]outbrain[dot]com.
If you have any more questions - feel free.

Hi Jay :)
We're happy that you're using our widget! The reason your claim attempt is failing is rather simple: your blog has a content warning page which precedes the actual blog, and prevents our automatic blog crawler from accessing it.
This crawler is responsible for visiting the URL you gave us and check that the key is installed there and is valid. If our crawler encounters something else (such as a 404 page, a content warning, a "visitor only" warning etc.) it mistakes it for the actual blog , looks for the key, and when it doesn't find it - it assumes it is not installed.
This is why your other blog was claimed successfully (it probably doesn't have a content-warning).
Unfortunately, we still have no good solution for this problem, but I promise you we are working on it. If you want to, I can add you to a notify list, and an email would be sent to you when a fix is available.
If there is anything else you need help with or if you have any other questions, feel free.
Tom Klein replied on July 20, 2008 08:44 to the problem "I can't set a custom language file" in outbrain:
Hi Albert!
I discovered the cause of the problem.
Files being served on the internet usually have an associated "content type" which the browser uses to decide what to do with the response from a website. This information is not actually part of the file, but is sent along with it.
We, at outbrain, limit file content types for custom language files to textual types (html, javascript) to prevent people from giving us links to big MP3 files and stuff like that, which would put an unnecessary load on our systems.
Unfortunately, the URL you use has a "content type" called: "application/octet-stream". This is probably caused by the Hosting service you are using.
You have three options of how to solve this problem:
1. simplest one is to use another hosting service which would hopefully associate the file with a proper content-type (such as "text/javascript").
2. Another one is for us at outbrain to set your language file URL manually on our side. NOTE however, that this would prevent you from being able to submit ANY blog settings on our site (because you would keep getting the "URL inaccessible" message.
3. Lastly, you can wait for us to release a general fix for this problem :)
I'm really sorry for this inconvenience, but please tell me which solution do you prefer.

Hi insomniac,
To access your outbrain statistics you need to log-in into http://www.outbrain.com with your account. You would automatically be taken to your reports.
If you need help on how to do that, let me know :)

I'm not sure why it doesn't work (IE can be tricky that way) - but let's fix this anyway! Try to add:
"!important" (without the quotes) after each of the instructions.
You should end up with:
/* Outbrain Extra CSS
----------------------------------------------- */
.outbrain_MP_widget .outbrain_MP_title {
border-bottom:none !important;
font-size:78% !important;
}
.outbrain_MP_widget .item_last {
border-bottom:none !important;
}
Note that you can (and should) remove the first block of rules, that reads:
.outbrain_MP_title {
border:none;
font-size:50%;
}
Tell me if this worked :)

No problem. If you notice, we did manage to get half of the problems solved (the line that was at the bottom is now gone) :)
I'm sorry but I made a mistake in the CSS i gave you,
the first line should have been:
.outbrain_MP_widget .outbrain_MP_title { border-bottom:none; font-size:78%;}
and NOT:
.outbrain_MP_title {border-bottom:none; font-size:78%;}
P.s - I also see you changed it to 50% but i suggest you keep it at 78% (like the other sidebar widgets) or it would be REALLY tiny.
Anyway - this should work so tell me how it goes!

Hi starinajar -
We're glad your using our widget on your funny site :)
The title of the "most popular" widget is larger because it has an (unnecessary) default size (which would be fixed in future versions). However, it should be fairly easy to fix this in your blog, as well as those lines you want to remove.
All you have to do is add these CSS rules to your blog template's CSS :
/*outbrain extra CSS*/
.outbrain_MP_title { border-bottom:none; font-size:78%;}
.outbrain_MP_widget .item_last {border-bottom:none;}
/*end of outbrain extra CSS*/
If you need help on how to do this, or if you have any more questions - feel free to ask ! :)
