+1 from me to fully support bidirectional FireEagle integration. Until them, I'm parking myself on the Falkland Islands. See more here: http://location-based.blogspot.com/20...-

And make sure the body is empty.
I tried uploading a picture and use the subject line to set my location at the same time but this is not working. It only processes the image and not the command in the subject line if you do that. – Martin Dufort, on May 06, 2008 18:21-

Well I'm sure that by using Sailling Clicker (http://www.salling.com/Clicker/mac/) that would be very easy to implement with some AppleScript. I might give it a go.

Using street intersection for checkinYou can use a street intrection to specific your check in location. I find this very handy when I'm in a new place and I do not know the correct address of it. In this case I would specify this for example :
Peel St and Ste-Catherine St, Montreal, Canada
And I would be checked in at the intersection. Very handy

I liked this idea and the best way to implement this would be to have defined places (with proper geographic boundaries) defined locally in your phone. As regular intervals, the phone would check your current location and compare it to those defined places, if you are within, then you are automatically checked-in.
The only thing missing from BK, is the ability to tag a place as private only so only trusted friends can see you there (like home).

You can still use the email interface (with your BK email account) to send SMS commands in the subject line in the mean time. Works well for me in Canada which is not supported either for SMS.
However best bet for me would be to have a Twitter Brightkite bot and leverage the Twitter SMS infrastructure.-

Hey Martin:
I understand your point of view and it is usually not a problem in other systems because they do not maintain the history of places visited. As soon as you do, a different privacy level gets into the mix.
The Trust vs Untrust is a good first step but I think it is too generic. I think the next step is way more complex then this and requires defining groups of friend and and privacy level for each.

Restricting places and placemarks visibility to new friendsWhen I accept a new friendship request, I think the acceptance date should define the date limit from which visited places and placemarks should be viewable to these new friends.
Ex: If I accept Dave on April 26th, 2008, he should only be able to see places and placemarks I was at from April 26th and forward. Nothing before that date.
On a privacy level, that is more logical to me. Perhaps you could add something like this in the profile section:
[ ] Show past (before friendship date) places and placemarks to friends
Thanks - Martin
