I have looked through a few of my contacts in your web interface, and it actually seem like the "erroneous ones" do not have "any" indicator on home/work, until I hit the edit button. The label is blank on the contact card view, but when I hit the edit button, the field label is (automatically?) set to Home, as it is the first entry of the label-dropdown?
Could this be the cause? That the label is "non-standard" and thus use a "default" state in the respective connection? In the syncing process this has scribbled up the labels, it seems.
It seems the "unlabled" contact details are labeled "other" on my iPhone, which I guess is the same as "unknown" for the iPhone?
I also have contacts which have gotten the "home" label, although it should be "work". Most of the time, when there are multiple email addresses or phone numbers.
Does this help you identify the issue? (Sorry, that this thread is somewhat off-topic...)

That would be my guess also... As stated before, I have temporarily uninstalled the Outlook-plugin, awaiting the new release. In the meantime, I have restored the original Outlook-contacts. Question is what will happen when I install a new Outlook-plugin.
Will I get duplicate contact entries (since one is having the phone number as Home and the other as Work) or will they be merged, but still with duplicate phone numbers (Work vs Home). It would be great if there is a way to establish rules for selecting a "winner" in these cases, or I will have to scrub quite a few contacts... ;-) or find a smart way of filtering contacts to delete before adding the Outlook-plugin again.

Allow edit when merging contactsThe updated merge functionality is good. It would be even better, if I could select/de-select sections and edit the fields in the merging process, instead of having to accept the merge (with possibility to edit only the name fields), and then click the edit button.
Nice improvement though.-

Good to know. Still, it would be useful if Soocial could (optionally) normalise the formatting of things like names, addresses, etc., when possible. The reason for this being that new entries may "come in" from different connections/sources, and thus have different formats, and it would be nice if they are "cleaned". Even in the Soocial web interface I have three different formats on names in the list:
1. [given name] [surname]
2. [surname], [given name]
3. [surname] [given name]

I am not sure when (meaning with which connection) it happened with. I almost assume it happened with the Outlook connection (which I have now disabled/uninstalled due to all the problems). But I cannot confirm if the Outlook connection is the bad guy, or if it is the Gmail connetions.
I am currently using two connections: Gmail and iPhone/Synthesis
I have used two others in the past: Outlook and Nokia E70.
(I have been in contact with your support - Bart - on the Outlook issues, but not this in particular.)

I have the same experience, where a large number of my contacts work email addresses have turned into "Home" ones.
Being able to search for specific email domains and mass-change them to work addresses would be great.
As a nice feature, you could actually also analyse all my other contacts and suggest (or just point out) that a particular domain seem to be "work"-related. For example, when using a company domain which is already "known" as a work-address for some other of my contacts, you should suggest changing/setting the current address to "work", and possibly vice-versa.-

Standardise display namesIt would be great to be able to standardise the display names (e.g. name order) for contacts in various contacts. During the syncing processes over the last few months, I have ended up with all different kinds of orders (for me primarily an issue with Google Contacts).
Is it possible to have the Soocial sync, standardise/normalise the display name (yet, keeping the structured name data intact of course)?
Actually, If possible, the same could be useful for display (unstructured) addresses in Google Contacts. But, the problem is most obvious with names, as the sorting is messed up when surnames and given names are listed first or second with some randomness.

Store obsolete/historical contact details with Soocial, but don't sync themI think it would be great if one could make some contact details as obsolete (possibly adding a time range indicating when it was valid). Primarily this would be useful for email addresses and phone numbers, but I could see a use also for postal addresses, company names, positions, etc. I would normally only want the most recent info to be synced to my contacts, but the history could be useful when trying to find old contacts, or match old contacts with new information.
Is this something you have been considering?
Time stamping last "manual" validation or update of a contact would also improve the process of maintaining the address book.
