On my iPhone, I can send an email TO my SMS.... Using this old email address.... 6465552195@mobile.mycingular.com (where 646-555-2195 is your phone number)
HOWEVER, from the iPhone you cannot send SMS message TO an email address.
HOWEVER, on Treo and many other phones, I believe you CAN send an SMS to an email address --- like your Ping.fm Post by Email address... – Bruce Wagner, on November 16, 2008 14:12

I think you can already do this. If your phone has SMS to Email.... Just send an SMS to your secret Ping.fm "Post by Email" address. (You already have one! Check your Ping.fm page for "Ping by Email") – Bruce Wagner, on November 16, 2008 14:09

Would this work?
What if you created a separate Twitter account... linked it to your cell phone...
Then, took the RSS feed from that Twitter account, and fed it through http://RSSFWD.com to your Twitter "Post by Email" account...
THEN....
Just SMS post to THAT Twitter account... Then via its RSS feed, RSSFWD would email post to Ping...
Would that work?

Why don't you free to us, users the configuration of sms, in a manner like sending a confirmation code to an email account. For example my company provides email to sms in the form [mobile number]@ideasclaro.com.ar so that if you send an email to this address, it's automatically forwarded to the phone. In reverse way, if you receive via email from my configured sms-email address to a "secret" email address (see it at tumblr), you can redirect it to my ping.fm acccount.
Something similar, did Microsoft with msn-to-sms some years ago, but they changed it (don't know why).

I've been transferring domains recently between hosts and understand all the authorisation codes required, there is also paperwork with any change of ownership of the domain.
When it is a country specific domain like .fr, .de or .fm, as in ping.fm, then the paperwork needs to be printed and posted and that can causes problems if someone, either the sender or the host transferring or the host receiving, mistypes something. In some situations, the regulator (ICANN in America, Nominet in the UK) legally needs to be notified.
Personally I am transferring my international domains (.com, .net etc) to GoDaddy as they're the cheapest for those domains and I've never had a problem with them in the year that I've used them. My hosting however is with another company and my UK domains are with a third company.
I'm sure it will be sorted soon and all the connections will be back up and running. I guess it will be more cost effective, and perhaps more reliable (not that I've ever found ping.fm offline before).
I'm happy because I know it's coming back and I empathise because I know it's frustrating waiting unable to do anything while you wait.-
