Ms. Momville replied on July 17, 2008 18:00 to the question "Can't view Twitter website on PDA, wants to download a file" in Twitter:
I added my mobile number to my twitter account then began having the same problem. The twitter homepage kept trying to download a file every time I went to the main url. I could access the twitter.com from my desktop with no problem, but not from my laptop (which I used to add my mobile number).
I went to my twitter account settings page and deleted my mobile number and the problem went away.
Does this mean that you can't twitter over the web and by phone/text message? Surely not! Does anybody know?

BTW, I use IE7.

For what it's worth, I've found that after the recent web UI modifications, I also get a 'page will be downloaded' message from http://m.twitter.com using both IE6 on WinXP and IE7 on Vista. The behavior is consistent.
I get a pop-up box that looks like this:
Do you want to save this file, or find a program online to open it?
Name: login
Type: unknown file type, 2.99kb
From: m.twitter.com
[Find] [Save] [Cancel]
I don't get that error when I use Firefox. Looks like it's more browser dependent than platform (PC v mobile) dependent.
It loads fine on my Treo 680 using the Blazer browser.

Are you accessing this URL from your PDA?
http://m.twitter.com
Might want to double check. I suppose it's possible that something they changed has changed how phone browsers recognize the Twitter site.-

Krisjohn asked a question in Twitter on March 20, 2008 23:18:
Can't view Twitter website on PDA, wants to download a filePreviously, I could view the main Twitter website on my PDA (Windows Mobile 2003, Pocket IE), but if I tried to view the mobile version it would ask to download a file instead of displaying the page. Now the main website does that too.
My guess is that something's wrong with the headers for the mobile version and a recent upgrade now detects my PDA's browser and redirects there automatically. Could this be looked into, as I rather enjoyed being able to wander through the night's tweets on my PDA in the morning?

You're right in that the check in twitterfeed appears to think the feed is ok, but I suspect that may be a problem with the code that checks the format. I'll try and take a closer look at that. In the meantime, I think the best thing to do will be to fix the date format so that is correct - see also http://feedvalidator.org/docs/error/I...

The post dates on that feed don't validate. It's usually a good first step (but not necessarily a guarantee, since my feed parser is not based on the same source) to validate the feed at http://feedvalidator.org.
If you do this with your feed, you'll see that the dates are invalid, and valid dates are one thing twitterfeed needs in order to decide if an item is new and should be posted to twitter.

I have a similar problem with one of my feeds. I'm using Dapper to turn my Slashdot user posts into an RSS feed. It works fine as a live bookmark in Firefox, but I can't get Twitterfeed to post anything from it.
I don't think the URLs are identical in my case, since the live bookmark items all go to different places.
