Hi Sara,
It sounds like you have a bunch of questions and I'm happy to answer them for you.
You're right, our front page does not have a list of features. We are currently working on a redesign and I will take this as good feedback for what you want to see on our site.
If you want more information on our features, or how to use them, we offer weekly beginner webinars to introduce you to all of the PBwiki features. You can sign up or listen to a recording here: http://pbwiki.com/content/webinars
PBwiki's limitations. We're always looking for user feedback and making improvements based on your suggestions. If you would like a full screen calendar or you want it to print - please let us know! If you want to get rid of the sidebar - tell us.
(It sounds like you're working on a PBwiki 2.0 - while you can't get rid of the sidebar, you can minimize it by clicking the small arrow on the top right of your wiki page. You can edit the sidebar by clicking the edit button on the sidebar.)
We have a free service because believe that people need a quick and easy place to collaborate with others. I love that we can help the recovery effort in china (http://earthquakerelief.pbwiki.com/) or just make it easier to plan a party.
Finally, Guy Fawkes wasn't banned because he was critical of PBwiki or the PBwiki staff. We have an open forum where you can discuss, criticize or praise PBwiki as openly as you like. If you want more details of Guys departure, you can check out the get satisfaction blog post here: http://tinyurl.com/5npxy2
I agree -- Guy provided some great technical answers. So do Vu, Tim, Clif and a bunch of other people on this site. I hope you'll continue to find the answers you're looking for - if not from Guy than from one of the many other people here.
Best,
Kristine

KrissyMo replied on May 14, 2008 22:52 to the question "Solving Multiple Wiki Sprawl" in PBwiki:
Hi Mobius -
Unfortunately I don't know of an easy way to integrate all of your content from multiple wikis into one single wiki.
If the issue is keeping track of multiple wikis - I suggest creating a PBwiki account. This allows you to consolidate all your wikis into one place - and log into all of your wikis with just one password. This makes logging in to multiple wikis much easier.
If the problem is that your students are working on too many different sites and you're having a hard time locating information across wikis, I recommend investing the time pasting your wiki content into a PBwiki 2.0.
The folders function of PBwiki 2.0 allows you to group your pages and manage information.

KrissyMo replied on May 13, 2008 22:08 to the question "Where can I find links to all the public PBwiki's?" in PBwiki:
Maverick,
Business wikis are usually private. They're often used to store internal company data, work on projects between teams, collaborate on documents, etc - which means they're not open to the broader web.
You can check out some business case studies here: http://tinyurl.com/6xvsgn

Klmot2ltdf.
Wow! Here are some suggestions:
1) Take him/her to the PBwiki homepage show him around.
2) Print out some of our educator handouts and given them to him/her.
3) Take him/her to the educator site (educators.pbwiki.com) and show him what online collaboration on a wiki looks like - have him edit a page to see how easy it is!
Good luck, it looks like you have your work cut out for you!

KrissyMo replied on May 09, 2008 23:12 to the question "Stealing the lock" in PBwiki:
Hi Sparkguitar05,
When you click "steak lock" you are able to edit a page the other person was editing. This causes them to lose their latest edits.
On our office wiki we always ask the person who is currently editing before we steal their lock.
Here are some other threads on edit locks:

KrissyMo asked a question in PBwiki on May 08, 2008 21:22:
How did your school react to using wikis in class? How did your IT department and your principal react when you began using PBwiki in class?
What did you do to convince them?
KrissyMo replied on May 08, 2008 20:31 to the question "Online Textbook" in PBwiki:
Hey Joe,
I spoke with Dr. Cavner who is using her wiki as a text book. Here is how she suggested people set up a wiki textbook.
First assign research projects to student and ask them to teach the class that subject, using the wiki page as class material.
When the students cover that information in class, you as the teacher should point out success and potential problems - adding correcting and insight on the wiki page. The following class can build off of that work, add content, delete incorrect information, etc.
I'll forward this post to her so she can add her own comments.

KrissyMo replied on May 07, 2008 20:35 to the question "Is there a content approval process before it goes "live"?" in PBwiki:
Nancy,
We don't have a feature that allows you to approve edits before they go live.
We chose not to develop this feature because it has the potential to create conflicts with your wiki content. One example of this could be when the content on a wiki page was edited and awaiting approval and a different person edited the page. The second set of edits would not reflect the first set of edits to the page and would then be difficult to reconcile.

KrissyMo replied on May 07, 2008 17:31 to the question "Partitioning a wiki for student groups to work but only see their own group's work?" in PBwiki:
Hi Kevin,
If you're working on a PBwiki 2.0 this is possible.
To do this you would create group folders and set custom folder security settings, inviting just the students in your group to edit/view the pages in this folder.
You can create as many folders as you want and at the end of the class, change the folder settings so that the entire class can see the group work.
We covered this in our cybersafety webinar located here: http://educators.pbwiki.com/newstuff
There is some information on folder and page level security settings here: http://tinyurl.com/5mk7z8

KrissyMo replied on May 07, 2008 17:02 to the question "Teaching 2.0" in PBwiki:
Hi Mrs K Verona,
We have a few resources to help you out. First you can check out our educator portal where others have posted their wikis and tips to getting started. (you can find that at educators.pbwiki.com)
You can also attend a webinar (a live conversation with someone at PBwiki) where we talk about getting set up and using your wiki.
Finally, just yesterday we had a webinar on creating online classrooms using wikis. The archive of that webinar will be available on the educator site today.
