A comment on the discussion "Educators - weigh in on login systems!" in PBwiki:
Lrosen,
Our engineers are currently scoping out several possible 2.0 login fixes for educators and those who want public involvement with their wiki. As you can see there are a lot of different issues and we want to make sure that the decision we make will fix all of them. We're actively working to fix this situation for you but until we have the answer, the best advice I can give is to continue using PBwiki 1.0.

Hey Cathy,
You can use a wiki just like a word document - type and save. The next person on that page will see your changes and add more information - or correct your mistakes.
You may want to check our educator portal (educators.pbwiki.com) to see how other teachers have set up their wiki.
Some teachers like to have individual student pages to get everyone on the wiki. and start them off slowly. Others create subject pages and ask students to add/answer a question about that subject.

Kori has an interesting idea -- asking all her students to respond on one wiki page. This doesn't solve the slow typing but it may prove to be a simpler solution to templates, tags and/or linking.

KrissyMo replied on March 28, 2008 00:29 to the question "How do I verify that a user created an account?" in PBwiki:
Hi KBCC-
I believe that you can tell who has registered on the users page (located in wiki settings).
Those who have created an account are listed in bold text, have a profile picture and a permission level.
Those who haven't yet created an account are also listed but do not have a profile picture and have the word "(invited)" next to their email address.
This is the case on a number of my wikis -- however I don't know if this is the official answer.
On the flip side, you can ask everyone who has registered to create a personal page and edit it with some information about the class project. That way you know that they are on the site, and they understand how to use it.

Hi Jonathan,
Quick question - will each of your students create new pages for each homework assignment?
If so I believe the template approach is the best solution. Instead of having them link the pages, have them tag the page with the name of the homework assignment. Tagging will make it easier to locate all assignments.
You may want to think about asking each student to create their own page where they respond to each assignment - rather than having them create a new page each time.
Thoughts?

Hi Kori,
That's an interesting approach - have you found that your students readily answer the questions, or do they wait for others to post first? I like how they individualize their answers in color.
I've noticed a bunch of teachers who encourage their students to create a personal wiki page and respond to assignments on that page.

Hey CSLA 2.0 Team-
The educator wiki is YOUR wiki!
Add information, ideas, new categories -- any information that you think educators, including teacher librarians, should know.
My advice is to create a new page, populate it with some ideas to give the community a guideline of how to post, and then create a section in the sidebar to point folks there.
I'm so excited to see that people are getting value out of the site and I want to encourage everyone to EDIT!
BE BOLD!

Hi Jaina,
At the moment there is no undo button in the beta Pbwiki 2.0 -- but we have heard a lot of requests for this feature.
If you have a feature request or you would like to change something in the beta, click on the 'beta feedback' link.
We read every bug / feature request and have already modified Pbwiki 2.0 in response to user feedback.
To see the changes we've already made, click on 'beta feedback' and head to the 'previously fixed issues' tab.
Thanks!

David E. Weekly's reply to "Is the Classic Editor supported in PBwiki 2.0?" was just promoted to the most useful! KrissyMo and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
I can confirm that Classic mode and WikiStyle are not incorporated into 2.0 and that we have no short-term plans to add them into the 2.0 product. That said, we also don't currently have any plans to force 1.0 wikis to upgrade to 2.0.
I think you raise a good point that we need to make sure that 2.0 is keyboard-friendly (common operations should be possible to complete without using the mouse). It's something Nathan's working on.
Beyond this, I think there's a general philosophy we're exploring of making an interface amenable to expertise - what I mean by this is a system that's very easy to approach initially but offers unfolding richness and complexity to a master. Like Larry Wall says, "make the easy tasks easy and the difficult tasks possible." And keyboard shortcuts are a good example of this (especially since they don't present a UI to confuse novices).

KrissyMo replied on March 10, 2008 22:42 to the question "I would like to have my company's logo at the top of my wiki. Can I do it?" in PBwiki:
Hey all,
With PBwiki 2.0 you will easily be able to upload your logo to your wiki. This will be a premium feature, and it won't involve any CSS or special configuring.
You can sign up to create a brand new beta wiki right now, or wait for a few more weeks when you can transition your 1.0 wiki to a 2.0.
