i've run in safe mode. doesn't work. i did what you said (thanks for the direction btw)... and still says same error message that TB is still running, etc.... i'm going to leave it alone and try it again later after i've rebooted a zillion times. maybe it's just slow. thanks anyway. – kristenharper, on September 29, 2009 15:57

how do you troubleshoot compatibility and set it to windows XP (SP3)? Are you saying to override my OS with XP to make it work? I'm not smart enough to figure out what you mean.... advice would be much appreciated. thx. – kristenharper, on September 28, 2009 21:27

songbird won't download. says another version currently downloadedI downloaded songbird to vista. then i deleted it. not sure why now- i'm kicking myself for doing it. i know the profile manager thing- i just did it for thunderbird, etc. i deleted the profile from my system. when i type the %APPDATA%\songbird it still has a songbird2 something there (but it's not a folder, rather just a blank piece of paper looking icon- i'm not that saavy to know what that is, maybe a torrent file not in use now). but i can't click it because it says it's nowhere on my system. i'm pretty sure i have no songbird or profiles on my system. but, still can't download my music. it's driving me nuts. probably because i have been setting up this new computer today ;) ANY help would be appreciated. but, note- i have deleted the profile. thanks!!!!

when add new email account doesn't let me add outgoing serverI have searched forever so I'm just going to ask this. I feel really ignorant because this is probably really easy. I have been using TB with only one account for a while. But, I have 3 email accounts. Hotmail, and 2 other server emails. I just tried to add hotmail and my other email to my TB. I first added the server as IMAP. I mean the the server site gives you all the info so I thought piece of cake. Here's my issue... It didn't let me add the outgoing server. It just automatically said it would use what I already had for my outgoing server. I kept messing with it until I set the new server with my new email as the default. Then it allowed it to work. But, all of my thousands of sent messages are gone. Bummer. Lost sleep over that one. Okay, so today I am setting up hotmail. Same thing- so I set that as default. I mean- is this correct? I don't see anywhere where I'm supposed to be doing this. But, I can't find another workaround. My issue now is that hotmail can send mail but doesn't import it. And, it doesn't have a 'sent' folder box. And, TB says over and over that it's saving my message it's sending in the sent folder. Hmmm...
Is the 'default' thing I did the reason it's all messed up? If so, how do you configure an outgoing server setting if it's not letting you put in the outgoing server settings???
Thanks to anyone who has some insight....

Can't manually manage music on iPod 30GB and not an idiot ;)30GB iPod will work if click 'sync' but I can't manually put in specific songs or playlists. It looks like they are being put into the iPod and like everything is ok (refresh circle, etc)- but when I go into the iPod library nothing shows. Not a problem on shuffle. I have restored factory settings a few times, reinstalled ipod support add on and any other small thing I can think of. Any ideas on what this could be?

where is ipod directory and ipod_control?My 2nd gen shuffle isn't recognized and I'm told to go to ipod directory and then ipod_control and delete that file. Um, I think I'm dumb because I've been trying to locate those files for 2 hours with no avail. Maybe my computer is completely out of whack, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm on a mac. Any help would be awesome. Or another way to solve this. Thanks.-

Hey 1Putt- did you ever figure out how to find your ipod 2nd generation? It's driving me crazy because I can't find it on mine either and I have the same ipod. I'm pretty good on the computer and I've done everything. Installed ipod device thing, enabled disk use from itunes, unchecked the shuffle from itunes as the default. Nothing works. Since I've lost my main ipod, this is the only one I have. I don't want to get the touch because this thing doesn't work on that for sure. I'm hoping you found a solution!! Thanks
