d❤vid seaward asked a question in Boxbe on October 01, 2009 07:57:
Boxbe allows spam Gmail used to blockBoxbe seems to be fooled by spam if sent from an address on my guest list, even though Gmail used to identify it as spam and bin it.
Specifically, I use a Gmail account with a dot in the username. For filtering purposes I sometimes send myself email from the account with out a dot in the username (e.g. I send to user.name@gmail.com from username@gmail.com). Of course, some spammers try to send me email from my own address as well. Gmail used to filter these, no problem.
Now that I'm using Boxbe and all my self-addresses are on my guest list, all this spam is coming through. I'm now getting *more* spam in my inbox, not less! What can I do?-

This feature has been pushed to a future release: http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/index.ph...
For now there is a "highly-experimental" add-on that does some of the work: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...

Started a thread to discuss this on FF too http://friendfeed.com/friendfeed-feed...
d❤vid seaward shared an idea in friendfeed on May 10, 2009 23:33:
FriendFeed should send pingbacks to blogsThere have been concerns raised[1] that discussion on FF takes away from discussion at the source (e.g. a blog post is linked and discussed on FF rather than in the comments of that post).
Why not deal with this the way that blogs normally do, with pingbacks? Whenever a new link is added to FF, FF just pings that URL back. If it's a blog, a pingback will appear in the comments linking to the FF discussion, just as it would link to a post in another blog.
But it gets better. If FF pings *all* URLs back, other services can choose to accept pingbacks too.
For example, if someone on FF linked to this GS issue, and GS accepted pingbacks, a link to the FF discussion would appear below. I would get a notification via GS, and I could choose to follow the link. Anyone else visiting the issue on GS could do likewise. Anyone on FF might follow the original link back and contribute to GS (e.g. if someone resolved the issue I would come back here and say so).
Now, this last issue depends on whether individual sites want to support external links[2], but many blog engines *already* support this, and for this reason alone I think it would be a worthwhile feature.
[1] I remember this from when FF was launched, and these concerns are referenced in http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?t...
[2] I'm sure very few will, which is a great pity. This is a tangent to my core suggestion, so if you think it warrants discussion, please get in touch!
A comment on the question "What's the best way to add my Get Satisfaction activity to my FriendFeed?" in friendfeed:
Note that you can now add it as a feed (grey icon) rather than a blog (orange icon). This way you can get the content of your post onto FF too. – d❤vid seaward, on May 10, 2009 23:10

(Accidentally created duplicate http://friendfeed.com/kwill/4bec9837/... too.) Feel free to leave comments on either.
d❤vid seaward reported a problem in friendfeed on May 09, 2009 23:59:
Imaginary friend names still visible to public (aka private groups)I have set up a number of imaginary friends (aka private groups) using my friends' names and their feeds from various services (Twitter, blogs, etc). e.g. Alice Liddell at friendfeed.com/imaginary-alice-liddell
However, when visiting the group URL while not logged in, their name is emblazoned on the page, and presumably a profile image would also be visible, if I had added it. Is there any way to suppress these details? For my convenience, I'd like to see their names in my feed. For their privacy, I'd like their names suppressed for everyone else.
My current workaround is to just make up another name. Is there a way to do this properly? Any other suggestions?

A comment on the question "Why don't RSS feeds for user tags work?" in LibraryThing:
That links works for me, but obviously shows *my* books. Here's a me-specific link, it works for me, does it work for you? http://www.librarything.com/rss/yourtags/reference&user=kwill
If so, try swopping your username in and see if that works. Post it here (if you don't mind disclosing your username) and I'll check that I can see it.
If not, yeah, must be a Mac thing. Or, is your library private? – d❤vid seaward, on May 04, 2009 02:04-

Use the official LibraryThing groups for supportGetSatisfaction is great, but if you're having trouble on LT the best place to get help is really the official LT talk pages, mainly because this is where all the other users hang out too.
