Oh, I uninstalled, reinstalled (the installer said an update was available so it did the update thing to the latest VIP build this morning) and the problem still exists. Can't get into BumptopSettings.exe :( – Lasticko, on September 20, 2009 16:51

May have found what it could be: The 80+ pics I had on the desktop were each 5-6mb 12mpixel large images. I had unchecked the windows thumbnails in the Bumptop setup. So the hires thumbnail generation process was hanging bumptop. – Lasticko, on September 19, 2009 11:56

With this new build, I'm getting an occurrence (happened 3x now) where for no reason (idling) it ramps up on CPU time and stays at 50%. It's practically unresponsive, and I need to right click on the systray icon and wait....... until finally I get the menu and I exit the app then restart it and it's fine.
Dunno what it's doing or getting delayed on, but is it a multicore app? If not, that would explain the 50% and not 100%, since I have a dual core.
Here's my specs:
E6600 Dual core 2.0 ghz approx.
GT8300's in SLI
eVGA nForce-SLI Mobo
Windows 7 RC
and FYI, I have a good amount of pics on the desktop, but in BT they're piled neatly -- so I'm guessing like 80 or so objects/pictures.

Really happy with the update! Quick suggestion: When launching an icon/object on the desktop, please execute the launch in a completely separate thread. I double clicked on a word document by mistake and (since I had a gazillion things loaded on my laptop) it took a while for MSWord to finally launch. During this time BumpTop was completely hung up waiting for the OS execute call to complete. Possibly an animation on the icon while BumpTop monitors the separate thread and the animation could stop once that thread completes. Then the user knows that it's been launched (and it's working on it) so they don't go launching it again.. yet they still have control to continue workflow. Let me know if I should put this in a different thread/forum. Cheers /m

BT Hanging on load if Disconnected drives/shortcuts exist on Desktop?BumpTop hangs severely on load and during usage when disconnected drives / shortcuts exist?

Going off the original post at the top, I would like to see the icons become personified - like they can start weight lifting, or doing human pyramids, or running laps around the box, start all doing "the wave" in unison, they can start digging a hole in the ground (digging to escape) making a pile of dirt as they dig deeper. They could throw rocks and shatter the walls as if they were glass (think Time Bandits :)
It could snow in your BumpTop, with snow covering everything, and the icons could get in a snowball fight. Or they could play dodgeball, using other icons as the balls - whipping them around.
One could go all day with ideas once the icons had eyes/arms/legs.

Sounds with Themes - User Customizable for each soundWould like Bumptop to include system sound effects that the user could get bundled with a theme, or also custom specify their own sounds (sounds for making a stack, grid, dropping to email/trash, clicking noise (like the click of an ipod) the further you draw a line to fan out a stack), bumptop startup/shutdown noises, a noise when a photo frame updates, breaking a pile (glass breaking! :), converting a pile into a folder, etc.

Hotkeys for viewing angle? (No, not scroll-zoom :)Different Themes utilize different viewing angles. Is this coded into the theme, or do hotkeys exist to change the viewing angle?

Actually, theres a screensaver called Kaze to Desktop. After plugging in your zipcode, once the screensaver activates, it checks the wind speed and direction (and general weather) for your location, and it "blows" around your icons, windows, any WMI Window visible on the screen and blows it in the direction and speed of the current weather outside. It's really nice and it would be fun to see Bumptop have the same thing happen. Little tornadoes on the desktop, You could even turn the bumptop into like a lottery ball machine, blowing the stuff up and around the "box". Nicest thing about that Kaze to Desktop, is when you click to deactivate the screensaver, it makes all the objects gently (but quickly) migrate back to their original positions. Very nice transitions :) Whatcha think?
