Really? that's interesting... check for "Disk Utilities" in your Applications folder or use Spotlight to find it. It should be in your Mac somewhere and follow the previous instructions. – Alex, on October 11, 2008 01:37

Disk Utility should always be in /Applications/Utilities for any typical Mac OS X installation. If not, you should be able to get it off the system CD.

Alex, I tried that but there is no Mac HD nor Disk Utilities found in Applications > Utilities...? There is only HP ink jet utility, iMac EFI Firmware Update, Adobe Installers, Adobe Utilities and Java. Should I reinstall my Mac OS X 10.4? In doing so will I need to remove all my files to ensure they won't be deleted?

go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities and click on your mac drive and click repair permissions and once done click in repair disk. restart your Mac and see if it works... – Alex, on October 09, 2008 02:13

Alex, I'm having the same problem but when I select the "+" icon NOTHING happens. I was able to do this a few days ago but now nothing seems to be working. I found forums that say connect using AppleTalk but when I open my network preferences it keeps saying "Your network settings have been changed by another application" click "ok" and it pops right back up. therefore I can't do anything there either. None of these solutions work for me, because when I click the "+" in the print and fax preference pane, it can't find any printer. I managed to get the info into the computer when I connected the printer directly via usb, but then couldn't figure out how to change the connection type from usb to rendezvous, which is what the "help" pane suggested. If it can't find the printer in the first place, then maybe I didn't set up the AirPort utility properly, and the usb port is still closed?? Don't know what to do next.

The Printer Setup Utility is built into Print & fax preferences in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard", just like Internet Connect is now part of Network preferences in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard". Also AirPort base stations do not have printers connect wirelessly through IP addresses, you use Bonjour! Oh, by the way it's "ifconfig" in Mac OS X & Linux.

I've had this problem too, and I don't remember what fixed it. Try running Disk Utility and repairing permissions; that fixes a lot of small problems like this.

One thing that may help: Leopard took away the usual spot for printer utilities. Now, it's located in the System Preferences if you're using Leopard. It's not easy to find, and they didn't do a good job of letting people know about this change. Choose Printer & Fax (who faxes anymore!) from the System Preferences. That might help a bit -- if you're using Leopard.

I am having the same problem. I have a macbook pro with 10.5.4 operating system. I need to print out some photography for a client, and finally connected to my Epson 2200 with Firewire. Connecting to a printer has never been a problem. But I have no Printer utility anymore, and I can't get Photoshop's printing menu to recognize a new printer. I downloaded this driver, but to no avail. I am holding on for the tech line now. The probabl will want my credit card before answering my question. If anyone has an answer PLEASE email me directly : melodysmedimix@gmail.com

I found the printer's IP address after pressing the menu button (on the printer) for settings and scrolling through the options. Eventually I printed off a page that had all the printer's details - all generated by the printer. I entered the IP address and was finally able to access my printer from my MacBook Plus. Yay! (PS Good luck).

I am having the same problem with the printer setup up utility and an inability to add a printer in the printer/ fax pane of system preferences.

It may be related but I have also recently had an issue with OS X recognizing my external drive (which worked fine for 6+ months). The firewire and USB port detect other devices fine.

Additionally. I have started getting "data fork" errors with toast.

All these issues have been noticed in the same week after a software update.

I run 10.4.11

This just worked for me as well. Any comments regarding a printer/scanner combo. When trying to use the scanning software it won't recognize the scanner. Any suggestions to get the scanner software to recognize the scanner/printer? – Paul, on June 08, 2008 20:32
