I'm happy to say that after speaking to Shure directly, they agreed to replace my broken earphones with new ones. Thanks to Maged and Kelli at Shure UK!

Cracked earphone cables for E3Gs
As my E3G earphones approached 2 years old, the cable near the earbud started to split and crack:

I think this is because the cable is too thick, and doesn't like being worn over the ear (despite the manual suggesting that you can).
