lctv replied on September 21, 2009 17:51 to the problem "importing dvd playback problem" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Thanks, John. As it turns out, although only 10:14 shows on the counter, the whole video will play on our new SX, so no problem! When I had this happen in the past, our old VSX would read like the WMP and only play up to what the WMP counter said, no matter how much time I allotted for it in the schedule.
Producer said he stopped about 10 minutes in, so this might have something to do with it. Might compression be a factor, too?
Thanks for the advice about VLC - I'll give it a try. ~ Mary Ellen

importing dvd playback problemImported Sony mini dvd+rw 1.4gb and copied file to SX. On SX, can watch full show (35+ minutes) on WMP, but playback counter stops at 10:14 and it will only play that long when broadcast, regardless of the time I say the show should go for. WMP on the server I used for import counts 35+, but I only get audio and a skin - no video. It also says "acquiring codex" before video starts playing.
I tried using the FixMpeg program, but it thought the file was just fine.

Cannot run 4.8.1 upgradeI sent an email to support re problem with 4.8.1 upgrade, but have not received response, so thought maybe I should ask for help this way.
I'm getting the error message, "This product requires at least internet information server #5". I don't have the XP Pro disc to take care of this. Is this something you can do remotely? Thanks! ~ Mary Ellen-

shows being interrupted at midnightDue to the time change, I've had to stay up later to wait for my cat to come home. He doesn't know about clocks. Anyway, I found myself watching shows on our station that straddle midnight and discovered that shows are going off the air shortly after midnight. It has happened with satellite shows and shows from the VSX. Carousel does not come on. I either get a staticy screen or a blue DVD screen. When I check autopilot, it says the shows are still playing! I can force the satellite shows back on, but if I try that with the VSX shows, they, of course, start from the beginning. The first time it happened I thought it was a fluke, but now I've witnessed it four times. Last night when I tried to force Carousel; screen went from the blue DVD display to a staticy screen. Went to Carousel on the 2nd attempt. (This was inadvertently posted as a question, too)

Wait a minute! I forgot something. On another thread I started about the encoder problem, I mentioned that I changed the control module setting from the Vela to VSXCM and now I'm not getting an "error" message when it checks the encoder in autopilot. That was six days ago; maybe you didn't see my message. Do you still see a problem when you go in there? How do I check to see if the encoder is working? ~ Mary Ellen – lctv, on February 11, 2009 02:07

The machine was shipped there and back, so that answer makes sense. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the guys who sometimes help me out doing this. I'm going to see if i can get a pro to make a house call. Thanks! I'll let you know what happens. ~ Mary Ellen – lctv, on February 11, 2009 02:01
A comment on the problem "A few videos not storing or playing back correctly" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Exactly. The web browser displays a folder for the content drive, but it doesn't open to display individual video files. Is it possible to drag a video file directly from the content file to the fixmpeg window? I think I tried that, but I will try it again. Thanks. ~ Mary Ellen – lctv, on February 10, 2009 00:05

info on encoder card:
# 3875
The video and audio inputs go directly to a BCN and Mini connector on the back of the card. There's an S video, one BNC in and one BNC out and one mini audio in, one mini audio out.
I'll be back in the studio Tuesday afternoon if you need me to do anything. Thanks, Chad! ~ Mary Ellen – lctv, on February 07, 2009 16:26

Chad deserves a raise!Chad is amazing! He kept on working on my problem after he had left work! And he solved it, too! Fantastic customer service. Give that man a raise, John!

Yeah! Thanks! Programs are airing! I'm so glad because I was going to have to postpone other plans I had for today in order to go back to the station to work on this. You "popping" into the VSX saved me gas and lots of time. Thank you!
I'll be back in the station on Saturday. I'll send you a report then on the layout and type of ports on the back of the encoder input card on the VSX and answer your questions about the connections then. Thanks again for your hard work, especially since you were off the clock! Amazing customer service, Chad! ~ Mary Ellen – lctv, on February 05, 2009 15:39

Thanks, Chad, I didn't know about either of those sites. Is it okay for me to use this site (getsatisfaction) for all problems and questions or should I go to http://www.trms.com when I have a serious problem (not working, not playing shows) with the server?

"... so that's why we try to have everyone who has an issue with a non-working system submit a trouble ticket, and leave the forums/chat for
general questions." I take it this site is the "forums/chat". How do I go about submitting a "trouble ticket"? – lctv, on February 05, 2009 04:24

I pinged the sever and that worked just fine. I also found the 4.6.4 program I accidentally removed and restored that thinking that maybe there was something incompatible the 4.6.5 program, but it didn't make any difference. – lctv, on February 05, 2009 01:54

Hi Chad ~ Sorry to bug you at home! I'm home, too, trying to see what I can do from here. Forget the thing about the schedule - for some reason it opens the tab "record" instead of LCTV. Schedule is there.
How do I check the cablecast bundle? Something I need to do from the computer on site, I bet.
The RAID was running on the VSX. I'm almost positive it said it was rebuilding. There were cylinder icons doing their thing in the tray in the lower left corner. Made me nervous, but then they went away so I figured all was well. Duh.
I'll be going in to the station tomorrow morning @ 11am EST. Unless you can think of anything I can do remotely, I'm done for the night and you should be, too! – lctv, on February 05, 2009 01:44

Okay, the problem has gotten worse. I had schedule built until the 12th, but now they're gone. When I came in today the server was off. I turned it on and it started running a RAID program. Am I having hard drive problems? – lctv, on February 05, 2009 01:02
