Bryan Collick replied on July 29, 2008 22:38 to the problem "Give us one way to find places!" in Brightkite:
Absolutely.
My thinking is that Placemarks and Places Visited are my two most active areas, in that order. I don't travel around enough to constantly use search; My heavy traffic is covered by the former, and those occasional but recurring visits are covered by the latter.
Since Placemarks actually are Places Visited, I'd assume that "times visited" would be the best scenario. They are two totally different things, though; good luck with the brainstorming! :)

Give us one way to find places!Placemarks are sorted alphabetically. Places visited are sorted by the number of times visited. Both are good and valid methods of organizations, but can we have just one?
This is a problem on the web also, but it is particularly acute on the iPhone...
Bryan Collick asked a question in Evernote on July 29, 2008 01:14:
Saving data to iPhoneDoes evernote for iphone allow for local storage of data? This is the dealmaker for the other clients; the fact that I can access my items when offline. If I wanted to review a list of names while on a flight or wanted to read from a pre-written statement in a place with low/no signal, it only makes sense to have this available.
There's obviously an issue with data charges, so perhaps this should be off by default but able to be changed.

Bryan Collick replied on June 22, 2008 03:08 to the idea "webshare to evernote" in plasq:
The drag and drop works, but Skitch is already set up to send to other web applications that could use similar methods: drag to flickr uploadr, for example.
My reasoning is probably just a preference, but in general, clicking a button beats drag'n'drop every time. Also by uploading to web first, character recognition is performed before it hits the client side. Small but noteworthy difference.

Thanks for the reply, Brady.
Will there be a customizable attribute for placemark length? Say I'm organizing a conference in Denver (which I am); can I mark the location of that event as "Bryan's conference" for the next week?
This would be cool for expiration of public placemarks, but might run into trouble if two public placemarks have the same location (say you're having a Brightkite Ball in the conference room next to mine).
BTW, is the offer still open to see BKHQ? I'd love to stop in and say hello! :)

Marking Temporary locationsThis weekend i attended a two-week long annual event. Held in an unfinished building that will soon be office space, it was 12 floors of artists, musicians and performers. Thousands of people checked out the free event.
As Brightkite is THE location-based social network that places people meeting in locations first, I just wanted to know how to mark temporary locations like this. In my head I can already think of a few more locations where temporary marking might be useful:
DC and Atlanta's summer Screen on the Green outdoor film series
Summer festivals and carnivals
Pecha Kucha nights
These are important because 1) they are excellent social outings and 2) when the event finishes they no longer retain that identity (often, the location may be completely different at the next event). How should these places be marked to maximize meeting people that attend?

Hi Lesley. Yes it is a bit inconvenient, but even more frustrating is that it doesn't seem to be working. Let me make sure I'm doing this right:
1400 1st st NE, 20002 [artomatic]
or
East-West Highway and Colesville rd, silver spring, md, usa Silver Spring Metro station
both of those failed for me. I'm assuming I don't need th brackets, but without it failed as well.

Handling Twitter crosspost-created 404susing the @ symbol with usernames has the same behavior in BK and Twitter. Not everyone is using both applications, though.
Perhaps an alternate USER 404 page could be utilized that says "sorry, that person is not yet on BK, perhaps they're on twitter?" with the word "twitter" going to twitter.com/username.
I'm not sure if any other web apps use the @username method

Riding the subway with Brightkitebrightkite seems to have trouble with DC metro [area subway] stations. A few of them show up, but many are not recognized.
Part of the problem could be that a single train line can (and often does) go through Maryland, DC and/or Virginia. I know that causes trouble with finding locations, requiring a user to LEAVE before searching for a business in a new location.
A comment on the problem "Using introductions as a matchmaker" in LinkedIn:
Thanks for this, Sheilah.
I was hoping to make a mutual introduction, so Steve's comment solved my problem. Your suggestion, however, solves another problem I hadn't asked about. :) Thanks! – Bryan Collick, on May 29, 2008 17:39
