hi again, it's been 2 weeks now since I've contacted WordPress to find out why they banned me, and haven't heard back from them. I guess they're simply too busy!
I have started using Zemanta again occasionally, and thus far no problems. So it must have been something else that caused their banning me. Anyway, all good now.

it simply didn't work (I blogged about how it happened here, including screenshot: http://intellr.wordpress.com/ ). Apparently they don't ever notify you of the decision when they suspend an account - they just do it! I think it's shocking and I'm still a bit annoyed with them now.
edit: hence I'm wary to use Zemanta, if this is what did indeed cause it. I'm sure it didn't, as otherwise other people would have reported the same problem. However I would feel more confident if someone could definitely confirm it.

A comment on the problem "WordPress Suspension - due to Zemanta?" in Zemanta:
I'm not 'blaming' you guys, I like what you do! It's just that this was the only change in terms of my back-end, hence, this is the first issue that I'm investigating. I've been blogging for 2 years in much the same style/with the same method and have never had any problems before. – lenina, on April 12, 2008 09:06

yep, I've already contacted support, but they're only available Mon-Fri.
It might not be Zemanta 'causing' it, but I don't violate any TOS or anything, and my blog is good and established. I.e. there is no reason whatsoever why they should suspend it! Since the only change I have made was to add Zemanta, that's the first thing that came to my mind.
On the other hand, someone may just have complained about my blog for some reason. I.e. flagged it up for some other reason. Either way, it's unaccpetable that WP suspend accounts without prior notification.
Thanks guys for your help, and I will let you know once I know what the problem was.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Is there an official support channel you can complain about this to get the official reason for suspension and to re-activate your account?
Probably this is some sort of misunderstanding with their automated tools not helping the issue.
The icon we are inserting is none different from the "Digg me" and other icons so I would be very surprised if this was the issue.
We are right now in touch with all the platform vendors we support and none of them expressed comments that our tool is in violation of their TOS. But I'll ask our product manager to check for this specific case of linking to make sure there is really no problem for our users.
In short: please contact wordpress, as they only know what triggered their suspension mechanism.

lenina reported a problem in Zemanta on April 12, 2008 08:30:
WordPress Suspension - due to Zemanta? My WordPress account has been suspended for no apparent reason. After checking the WP forums, they commonly suspend blogs for advertising/excessive linking and so on. Seeing that Zemanta adds a link to its site every time a blog post is zemified, I think that that's what may have caused it. I'm very distraught as I've been blogging for 2 years and nearly 500000 hits.
