Leonardo replied on June 02, 2009 01:09 to the idea "Web browser should be optional." in Songbird:
The idea behind Songbird is to make an open-source, scalable, customizable media player. The vehicle for its flexibility of a program is the codebase that the Mozilla Firefox web-browser is built from. This is for the obvious reason of using a widely adopted, highly supported, frequently updated framework leaving the fine developers the time necessary to build a quality media player.
The fact remains, if you don't use the browser functionality, you will not be at risk of virii or spyware because you haven't accessed a web page that is the door for their entry. One more paranoid step would be to block all Songbird-initiated Internet connections - the flaw to this is that you can't keep Songbird updated either. That being said, safe web browsing practices (regardless of browser choice) combined with regularly scheduled software updates are all 100% effective at avoiding damaging code from being executed on your computer (read: don't surf dangerous sites and you won't be infected).
From a usability or functional standpoint, there is nothing wrong with taking an existing, mature, and most importantly active codebase from a web browser to re-purpose it for other means (in this case a media player). If this idea is still something that is unsuitable for you, for whatever reason, then it is likely you should be using a different media player entirely.-

Leonardo replied on April 22, 2009 03:48 to the question "How can I make Songbird automatically alphabetize my playlists I've added to my iPod?" in Songbird:
Thanks for the reply Rathai. Unfortunately that wasn't quite what I was looking for. Perhaps I did not explain myself clearly enough. When I create a bunch of playlists on my iPod, they are listed in the left-pane of Songbird in the order I have created them, but not necessarily in alphabetical order. When I undock my iPod and then look for those playlists in Playlist view, they also appear in the order I have created them, but not alphabetical order. Any advice?
leonardicus asked a question in Songbird on April 21, 2009 20:41:
How can I make Songbird automatically alphabetize my playlists I've added to my iPod?I'm currently using Songbird 1.1.2 to exclusively to manage the content on my 4th generation (30 GB) iPod on Windows. Everytime I create a playlist on my iPod and then add content to it, the playlists are not alphabetized within the Playlist view of my iPod. Is there anyway to do this or add it to an upcoming release?
