Thanks for this Infernalmachine. I agree that the % change leaderboard is necessary and it's already on the product roadmap. We're aware of the issues around quarter end, not less the fact that everyone will have outstanding predictions, and are currently working on solutions to solve them.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Lesley replied on March 01, 2008 21:40 to the problem "About the settlement on the earthquake in the South America" in Hubdub:
The reference you make, infernalmachine, is to a coastal country's Exclusive Economic Zone which extends 200 nautical miles from the coastline. A coastal country has exclusive rights to all resources within this area of sea (such as fishing, mining) but not to passage (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territor...). A country's continental shelf extends to a similar distance.
This earthquake occurred 80 nautical miles offshore, which would mean it was still within Chile's EEZ although outwith it's territorial seas (which extend only 12 miles). There is an argument either way as to whether this constitutes "South America".
Looking at the market fluctuation, it is obvious that nobody was clear about the definition, so I therefore think the fairest option has to be to void it and to amend the Rules to reflect it. (I'm thinking something along the lines of: unless otherwise stated, in questions regarding an earthquake occuring in a specific country, the earthquake must occur on land - within the country's geo-political boundry - or within it's territorial waters (12 nautical miles offshore).
I would appreciate your thoughts and comments on this suggestion.
Lesley.

OK, let's try to settle this question finally and fairly...
The question asked, will an ebay auction "claim" to offer a piece of the satellite.
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_t...
The ebay auction states that they have an item which is "probably" a piece of the satellite.
It continues that "unfortunately we can ́t take any responsibility for the correctness of those information"
Does this satisfy the question and "claim" to offer a piece of the satellite?
Please reply stating either
- Yes, it's a claim
- No, it's not
And please also state whether you've made a prediction on it.
Personally, I think it should be settled as Yes, but it's up to the users on this one.
Thanks!

Hey - I'm really worried about you guys....hope you're remembering to eat.....the laundry can wait tho!
I'm writing a blog post about ways to know if you're a Hubdub addict, and would LOVE your input...here's what I've got so far:
1. It’s the first website you open on your computer when you boot up
2. You check the weather forecast in Angola (when you live in LA)
3. You forget to eat
4. You follow every second of every speech made by Clinton (you have a wager on whether she will cry or not) and Obama (how many times will he say “change”)
5. You hear a news story about a missing child and think – do I have a wager on that?
6. You read every section of the newspaper
7. You have sleepless nights about losing too many Hubdub dollars
8. You race home from work/college just to catch the latest headlines
9. You dream about making it onto the leaderboard

The final decision is "No",i.e. "break" means to go above the figure.
Re what truthwrangler said about the source used:
"the "Official Rules" state that NOAA (noaa.gov also found at weather.gov) is the definitive source to use in the US."
The Rules state:
"Questions regarding the weather for a specific area must be clearly defined and listed in NOAA (www.noaa.gov/wx.html) or in the equivalent organisation in countries outside the USA "
This doesn't say that NOAA is the definitive settlement source, just that the location must be listed in NOAA. I agree with nubbins that NOAA isn't the greatest website!
