Hi Steve, you'll need to delete those and create them as transfers. If you need help our bookkeepers will balance your books for free for you. Just let me know. – Allan, on February 09, 2010 02:48

So the payments TO AMEX are not showing up as transfers. Is the source of the funds (the FROM account) in LessAccounting? Is AMEX setup in LessAccounting? – Allan, on February 08, 2010 22:04
A comment on the question "Not all bank transactions are expenses" in Less Everything:
We we get transactions from banks we don't know if they're a transfer of funds or just a normal expense. The app can suspect them to be transfers but until the user denotes them as a transfer its income and expenses. We need to do a better job of alerting the user to possible transfers instead of being passive. – Allan, on February 08, 2010 03:43

If both bank accounts are setup in LessAccounting then this is a transfer of funds. So create a transfer of funds you'll simple navigate to "funds transfer". If you've imported these transactions and need to change them from "expenses" and "income" to a "funds transfer" navigate to that page and click "add" the app will highlight possible funds transfer.
More explanation.
A transfer of funds is simple put an expense (debit) from one bank account and income (credit) to another bank account in your books. So when we import these transactions the app will look to see transactions that match from a certain date range. It will show these possible funds transfers and highlight them so you can quickly denote them a transfers and not really "income".

Give it a bit longer, if the transactions don't import let me know. I agree that this setup is confusing we're working towards a better solution. – Allan, on February 03, 2010 15:02

1. Navigate back to "Bank Accounts" click to "Add Bank Account"
2. Search for your bank
3. Authorize it
4. Now associated it to an existing bank account
5. Then wait an hour or so for all the transactions to import
6. Now navigate to "General Ledger".
7. Look for duplicates, the app is highlighting possible duplicates in gray.
8. Are your books good now?
9. If not, check out the starting balance of the account located on "Bank Accounts". The starting balance is usually calculated by the app sometimes it cannot grab calculate it.
10. The starting balance of the account can be found on your bank's online website. It will be the balance of the account on the date of the first transaction you have in LessAccounting. Example: Most bank accounts starting balance will not be 0 unless you imported all the data in the account back to the very beginning of the bank account.
