Joel Danielson replied on November 20, 2009 10:18 to the problem "first zero in phone number gets truncated" in foursquare:
I live in Beijing and have the same problem. Phone numbers here are formatted as such:
+86 10 XXXX-XXXX - land lines
+86 XXX-XXXX-XXXX - mobiles
86 is the country code, and in Beijing the area code is 10, but apparently unnecessary in mobile numbers. So altogether there are 12 digits in a land line, but 13 in a mobile line. I expect Japan will have even more trouble with this issue. They better resolve it soon as it appears that Foursquare is popping up in all kinds of cities - Beijing isn't in the list, but I found it was available when I signed up this afternoon. This thing is growing FAST and there are multiple problems reported for this same issue.

Joel Danielson asked a question in Tynt on December 27, 2008 19:53:
how can i build my tynt network?i'd like to engage in a discussion about why tynt has any merit, and why it doesn't. my question to start the process of gleaning value from this semi-original idea, hopefully resulting in a clear understanding of THE original idea, is this:
how is tynt planning to facilitate the means for its users to network? after all, the network itself is the content creator. that's the web 2.0 model. if we are going to move beyond web 2.0, we need to think about how we are already achieving the web 2.0 model. i have no way of understanding how to add friends to my network, or finding existing tynt users who i might already know.
here's a second question to supplement or broaden the scope of the first one:
how is tynt planning to facilitate the means for its users to improve the means of actually influencing web content, rather than merely commenting on it?
here's a "blue ocean" idea for you: imagine if the web-based API of wikipedia were available for all web content. this is the kind of potential i see in tynt.
tynt could provide a platform for gathering a large network base, as well as a means for writers, editors and designers to share improved designs with all of their contacts.
Joel Danielson reported a problem in SoundCloud on July 29, 2008 07:36:
can't play tracks!not sure what is going on. i press play, the button changes to a 'pause' symbol, and no sound, no moving track position indicator, and the time stays at 0.00
what's the deal?
i have never been able to listen to a track on soundcloud. not yet.
Joel Danielson replied on July 19, 2008 04:20 to the problem "Add Followers/Following metrics and Follow/Block buttons to New Follower e-mail" in Twitter:
i've been trying to raise this same issue with a site called "soundcloud". side issue, but the idea i had for that was that perhaps users could be voted down to a point that triggers a vote to ban them for abusing the system.
another idea would be to have no notification to the user who has been followed, thereby dropping the incentive for the spammer to randomly add people.-

Joel Danielson replied on July 18, 2008 22:51 to the problem "Need to Block/Delete Spam-Followers" in SoundCloud:
so basically, i've had very little response to this issue, except someone who said i have no right to complain. what happened to the right to free speech? what happened to people who say they are committed to feedback?
i'm having a much better experience with the getsatisfaction people.
this is the message i'm sending to the myriads of random spam-followers who keep adding me, despite the fact that i have not posted any tracks to listen to.
"please stop following me. your spam-following attempt at getting me to listen to your music is not going to work. it's clearly not kind or considerate, but selfish, self-indulgent and impersonal. go away."
Joel Danielson replied on July 18, 2008 21:51 to the idea "More Recent Activity Options" in Get Satisfaction:
didn't mean to give it the "trouble ticket" label, and obviously it doesn't need to be labeled or built as such, but you seem to get the point i'm making...
perhaps the tabs "topics" could be broken into "all topics" and "my topics" or, a simpler solution (less obvious) would be to add "my topics" to the drop down list -> BROWSE "all topics" (et al) BY "my topics" or "my activity"
