Sheesh, everyone knows Chrysler is garbage! Furthermore didn't the Jeep recently score as the LEAST reliable car in the world?

dynobot's reply to "WASAPI output" was just promoted to the most useful! liebezeit and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Thanks, but you [Songbird team] does realize that at Songbird's current state there is no way to get bit perfect data out via digital means.....ie no ASIO, Kernel Streaming or WASAPI support. This effectively eliminates Songbird as a possibility for serious listening. Almost every computer media player has at least ASIO support....

That's a good idea, Simon. I could probably rework things along those lines.... – liebezeit, on September 25, 2009 05:32

klint - yes, that's sort of a solution. But in an "inbox" as I imagine it, items remain until moved out manually...a smart playlist is a little too automatic for my taste.... – liebezeit, on September 20, 2009 22:17

Oh, and it would need a name. How about "watch playlists". – liebezeit, on September 20, 2009 08:30

And (I would think) it doesn't require a lot of "cost units" or whatever to build! – liebezeit, on September 20, 2009 08:26

Re: The external tool idea. This is the way UNIX works, and there's a good reason for it. Maybe Songbird needs more of a UNIX philosophy. (For example, what if Songbird could call upon the services of an external bittorrent tool to download a video file contained in an RSS feed?)
Here's a partially-unrelated feature that would be nice in this situation and others---simply to be able to have a watch folder linked to a playlist, an "inbox" if you will. One playlist per watch folder. The playlist works as a log for that source, whatever it is, and as an object that can be referred to in other contexts (i.e., sync this playlist to my ipod). This could stand in for "podcast" support, maybe even better than the "real" thing because very good external tools exist. This is obviously also useful for importing other things that Songbird can't get on it's own, such as the output of a bittorrent client.
The lack of this feature (in iTunes or Songbird) is actually what keeps me from using watch folders in general--I like to a have a playlist as a log of incoming items, so I can see what's there, fix tags, etc. I always manually drag-and-drop items into an "inbox" playlist for this reason.
