The issue is that Twitter has no concept of "read" versus "unread" private messages. Therefore, Flock can only stop considering them "new" when they've been deleted. Hopefully Twitter will consider adding that in the future.

You can't upgrade a G3 machine to Tiger without resorting to hackery tricking the Mac OS X Installer into thinking it's a G4. Giving the machine a new lease on life with Linux sounds like a good choice.
Unfortunately, if you want to continue using Flock on it once you move to Linux, you'll most likely need to compile it yourself. Our Linux releases are for Linux on x86 only, not PowerPC.
If you try to compile it, please let us know how it turns out! -

You figured it out. Since Twitter has no concept of "read" versus "unread" messages, we can only stop considering them "new" when they've been deleted. Hopefully Twitter will consider adding that in the future.
