Jean-Marc Liotier reported a problem in friendfeed on June 19, 2009 19:33:
Facebook > FriendFeed > Facebook loopI wanted to have my Identi.ca microblogging entries in FrienFeed, but since I import my FriendFeed into Facebook (using the FriendFeed application) and crosspost from Ping.fm to both Facebook, Facebook ends up displaying its own entries after a roundtrip to and from FriendFeed. This is of course somewhat related with the Friendfeed duplicate entries issue, but it is worse : without any smart duplicates handling, the FriendFeed application on Facebook should at least recognize Facebook entries and refrain from displaying them.

I just wrote a crontab-able shell script to automatically check-in a Google Latitude position in Brightkite. It uses the Google Public Location Badge and it works for me : http://serendipity.ruwenzori.net/index.php/2009/06/05/automatically-check-in-your-google-latitude-position-in-brightkite

Even before the API, it is possible to use the Google Public Location Badge - http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/b... - it is here now and it works. Brightkite could pull it periodically and check-in if changed.
If not, maybe we could develop an app that pulls it periodically and checks in Brightkite if it has changed...

In the terrain view of Israel, hebrew place names are only in hebrew scriptTake a look at the terrain view of northern Israel and its neighbours :
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=i...
Notice that :
- Syrian place names are in latin script only
- Lebanese place names are in both arabic script and latin script
- Israeli place names are in hebrew script only
Of course, for a European user, the Israeli situation is the least convenient.
It is quite strange that in the map and satellite views, Israeli place names are in latin script only. Using both local and latin script like in Lebanon for every place would make much more sense in my opinion. The only drawback is that the names layer is a bit too bulky, so maybe an option to switch between local and latin script would be best.
Jean-Marc Liotier shared an idea in Facebook on March 14, 2009 14:12:
Let users select newsfeed entries by multiple typesThe new newsfeed provides filters to select entries from only one group of friends, or of only one type (photos, links, videos etc.). I would like to have those filtering items available as multiple choice checkboxes.
My pet annoyances are the videos : I don't like the medium itself, and on top of that I'm generally not interested in music videos which constitute the bulk of what my friends post. This is of course my personal opinion, but I'm sure that other people will have their own pet annoyances that they wish to filter out.
Friendfeed does not do this... So while Facebook tries to imitate Friendfeed, why not implement something that they don't have for a change ?

Jean-Marc Liotier replied on February 12, 2009 23:05 to the idea "Automatic check-in on fixed workstations using XMPP resource presence" in Brightkite:
@Jonathan
Each XMPP client has a unique resource, so it would be possible to tell the location application to link presence on specific resources (home, office etc.) to the relevant locations, and ignore the others such as mobile or web clients.
When you start typing, the XMPP client may notify the event to the other party in a chat session, only if you have authorized it to do so. If you have multiple chat sessions open, it will happen for each of them independently.
When a client sends a new presence, the new status is transmitted by the server to all users who subscribe to your presence. If you have multiple clients connected with different presences, the server will update presence for each resource, but your JID's main presence will be set after a comparison of the resources priorities that will decide which presence will be set. There are various ways with which priorities change according to status, activity and specific client settings - but I won't get into that right now as it is a bit complicated.

I had the wrong idea of the remote subscription process, I was trying to subscribe to a remote user through Identi.ca. The right way is to start the remote subscription process on the remote site by following the "subscribe" link and letting Oauth do its thing. Now that I understand it, it is simple and obvious - but I am guessing that I may not be the only one who'll do it upside down and need an explanation.

Notice deletion is not functional and produces a blank page since the upgrade to 0.7.0Since the upgrade to 0.7.0, when following the trashcan "Delete this notice" link, one gets to the normal "You are about to permanently delete" confirmation page. Then on following the "Yes" link one gets a blank page. And the notice has not been deleted.
