This problem is absolutely killing the validity of my stats, since my Mac accurately records movie watching time, the pc doesn't. A simple fix is to allow the user to change the time until logging stops (in general or even better for specific applications). This way, before watching a movie, I can change this parameter to the appropriate length of the movie (or off all together).

same problem here... using VLC ( videolan.org )
for the developers.. you might at least add an event that checks if the application ( media player / vlc / winamp / itunes ) has focus and if it does add it as tracked time running that specific application.
This seems a quick fix since the RescueTime already knows about application focus.
Also adding a "Media Applications" tab to the properties window would help, by giving the user some control over this
ex: " media applications -> add vlc / media player idle time as tracked time"

I think this could be a bug in the linux uploader. Looking at its log files it doesn't always include the extended_info attribute for firefox, so presumably would be reporting a lot of unknown URLs. I've upgraded to the latest version as it looks like that bug has been fixed https://bugs.launchpad.net/rescuetime...
LaVidaLisa marked one of Dallas Despain's replies in RescueTime as useful. Dallas Despain replied to the question "How does RescueTime detect idleness? It didn't log all my hours yesterday and I was wondering what it's threshold was. Thanks, new user". LaVidaLisa and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
