lisaretief replied on October 01, 2009 04:36 to the question "Why not??" in Yola:
Hi Nick,
People have different reason for wanting to be able to upload HTML, but we have regular requests for it. Usually it is for a customization that is very specific to a single user. The issue we have when it is not linked to a paid account is the extreme abuse scenarios we have to deal with - mostly with phishing sites pretending to be Ebay and so forth - which is why we can only offer it to people who give us some more information about themselves, and the overhead in management requires than we charge.
I think I can safely say we will never support a SQL database - that is just not something that is scaleable for what we offer.
The membership database is a regular request, and is something we are looking at very seriously as an upcoming feature.
While you have bought a domain from us, most users have not, and most users enjoy a completely free offering. We make some money from domain sales, and appreciate your support in choosing us for that purchase. I believe that the ease in setup and integration is worth the premium, and while there are cheaper places to get a domain, there are also far more expensive ones.
And lastly, we would welcome you as either a pro or non-pro user.
It is customers like you that we want to support as you grow your sites into valuable and highly visited assets on the internet.

A comment on the update "Introducing Yola Pro" in Yola:
Hosting is something that we provide for sites built using Yola, and we provide unlimited bandwidth along with that. Our offering is however far more holistic than that of basic hosting companies - we provide the tools and support to build and grow your websites. As I said, it is all about choice, and feel free to make yours.
If you are concerned about how close you are to hitting your limits in the free offering, you can view your status by logging in and looking at your Account Status. Most of our users are way beyond any limits of the free offering. – lisaretief, on October 01, 2009 03:39
A comment on the update "Introducing Yola Pro" in Yola:
Hey Timothy,
If you go pro, you will still be limited to 25 sites, so not be able to create new ones over and above the 30 you have. Please email support@yola.com explaining why you need 30 or more sites, so that we can better understand how to provide for your exact needs. You will never lose any of your existing sites or current usage.
Yes, the one premium style you choose will be available for you to use on all your sites and you can still choose from all the free styles as well.

Donald (and others),
I invite you to take a look at the alternatives. Our free offering is extremely competitive, as is the pro version.
We value our customer base, and no one is going to suddenly get anything less than they were using yesterday. We are still the same company, with the same commitment to excellence and value.
To be able to continue being that company, we have to make some considered choices, and in that process present you with some. At this point you get to choose between Free and Pro. Either way, we remain dedicated to providing you with your choice and supporting you every step of the way.

Oops, spoke too soon. With the gmail identity, the reqall bot 'comes online' but I still get the "Message delivery to reqall@im.reqall.com failed: (Code 503) "response to anything.

I am having the same exact issues as Mark. This is the third time I am trying.
After adding reqall@im.reqall.com as a contact, they don't show as "online".
Then if I try to talk to it, I get:
Message delivery to reqall@im.reqall.com failed: (Code 503)
I am a pro reqall user, and have set up the IM address via the web interface.
lisaretief replied on August 23, 2009 22:28 to the problem "Yola logins disabled for Maintenance" in Yola:
Hi all,
As VP of Engineering here at Yola, and one of the engineers working on this issue, I wanted to thank you for your support and patience.
The resolution of this issue involves a significant amount of work and time, as well as co-ordination with vendors and partners, so your patience is valuable.
Getting Yola back up and running at 100% capacity is our primary focus, but expect logins to be disabled at least until Monday morning PDT.
As our community support team have indicated, published sites are unaffected.
I hope my next post will contain good news.

Hi all,
We have no updates at this stage.
As you probably know, you can read an overview of the program at http://www.yola.com/yep.html, and sign up to receive full details as soon as we have them.

Hi Roberto,
We do not currently have a public API or framework for 3rd party developers to expose their widgets to Yola users.
We do however work with many widget providers to create deep or shallow integration to their widgets.
If you are interested in chatting to us about the widgets you have developed and their inclusion in the Yola site builder, please send us an email at tech@yola.com and we can chat.
Thanks for the interest.

Published sites are currently averaging a load speed of around 3 seconds from a selection of locations on the US East Coast, US West Coast, London, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
Please post a URL of any particular site you are concerned about so that we can verify for you that other people can see it.
You can also use http://webpagetest.org/ to run your own test from different locations if you wish to.
lisaretief replied on April 03, 2009 16:23 to the question "What is the uptime rate on Yola?" in Yola:
Hi Emma,
We aim for 99.9% uptime on both the Site Builder and Published Sites.
Over the last year we have certainly hit this.
In the last month, the specific statistics are:
Site Builder: 99.91%
Published Sites: 99.51%
We have a team of experience engineers working constantly to uphold and improve our uptime.
When you choose to host your site with us, you get implicit access to premium hosting backed by engineers who make sure your site remains available.

Hey Bengo,
Thanks as always for keeping us on our toes and demanding excellence and accountability. It is thanks to customers like yourself that we can continue improving our product.
Don't be mistaken - this place is crawling with SynthaSite engineers, which makes it unnecessary for community support to represent anything to us.

lisaretief replied on February 08, 2009 08:26 to the question "301 Redirects -- useful, or wasteful?" in Yola:
Hi all,
We are aware of issues with some users' site maps (generated by SynthaSIte) that causes Google to show a "redirect not followed" warning. This will be fixed with our next release, and doesn't mean that your site isn't indexed. In the meantime, you're more than welcome to create your own site map (or use an online tool to do so) and submit that to Google.

lisaretief replied on January 21, 2009 08:32 to the question "Hiding or changing my domain name registrant data" in Yola:
Hi Grace,
The Internet Coalition for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) requires that the mailing address, phone number and e-mail address of those owning/managing a domain name to be made publicly available through the "WHOIS" directories, for accountability purposes. Because we sold you the domain, your information is attached to it.
There is a service called "domain privacy" which is offered by some registrars where they will substitute their own information for yours, and act as a forwarding service for any queries that arise regarding your domain. However, this costs extra - we will have to buy the service for you from Network Solutions.
Should you want to do this, please send us an email at support@synthasite.com and we will assist you.
