Chris Liscio replied on December 08, 2009 21:02 to the question "Measuring low frequency response" in SuperMegaUltraGroovy:
Generally I'd advise measuring using the longest sweep you can tolerate. Leave it set to full-range, and start with 10s. Once you start getting repeatable results in the low-frequency area, you've got the right duration.
Longer sweeps result in a higher SNR for your measurements. Once the signal is far enough above the noise, you get the repeatable results you're after. Knowing what that threshold is depends on your room and your measurement equipment, so experimentation is key.

James: you should check out my video at http://viddler.com/explore/liscio/vid...
It describes how to set up Soundflower to record streaming audio for use with TapeDeck. I hope it helps!

Hi Joel,
Could you tell me the details about (a) the duration of the recording, and (b) what quality setting you used?
There's a known issue in Mac OS X 10.6 which causes trouble with HQ recordings of a certain duration. What you've experienced sounds like this problem.
The only workaround I can offer, until I confirm that a fix has been made, is to use MQ mode (which is still CD-quality, compressed similarly to iTunes music purchases) for your long, high-quality recordings.
As I said before: Apple is aware of this, and they are working on a fix. It doesn't just affect TapeDeck—it's a system-wide problem.

Martin, this is very odd. Could you try renaming the files to ensure that the extension is 'aif', and not 'AIF'? Make sure to use the Finder's Get Info window to do it, so you can ensure you get the right extension.
From that screenshot, it appears one of the files doesn't have the .aif extension, though it is recognized as an AIF file by the Finder. Perhaps there's a hidden extension there...
Let me know how it goes.

My company-wide policy is generally that only major versions are paid upgrades, with some "slop factor" thrown in to make exceptions for folks that purchased just before a major version ships.
Major versions are x.0 releases, minor are x.1, x.2, and maintenance are x.1.1, x.1.2, ...just to clear up any potential confusion.
So, in short, yes—if you buy TapeDeck 1.2 (and if you bought TapeDeck 1.0), you're getting 1.3 for free.

Chris Liscio replied on October 29, 2009 13:51 to the question "In the name of the lord how do i display my results as a 3D waterfall????" in SuperMegaUltraGroovy:
Chris,
You have to ensure that the analysis in the main window is long enough to contain the duration of data that you wish to analyze in the waterfall window.
What that means, is that when you set an analysis window that only contains 100ms of data in the main FuzzMeasure window, asking for 1000ms or 2000ms of waterfall could potentially only create 1 slice (or maybe 2-3).
You can adjust the analysis window by dragging the edges of the shaded region to increase its duration. Alternatively, in the inspector, you can adjust the window start/end/duration manually.
Hope this helps.
