A comment on the problem "“The service is not currently available in your area.”" in Channel4.com:
Also, am slightly confused. Are you a Channel 4 employee? You do not appear to be registered as one, nor do you have any previous activity here. – Liyang HU, on July 21, 2009 13:44
A comment on the problem "“The service is not currently available in your area.”" in Channel4.com:
Reported as a proxy server/anonymiser by *whom*? And why?
I have a static IP address from Be*. I have had this address since late 2007. I'd rather not have to go through the hassle of asking for it to be changed and then having to update my DNS records. There's no guarantee that, even if I do request a change of IP address, I'll get another one that *isn't* falsely blocked for one reason or another.
So, um, how would I go about getting my address removed from the blacklist? :-/
Appreciate the help,

A comment on the idea "Groups" in atebits:
Allowing each user to be placed in multiple groups (i.e. apply multiple tags) would be nice too. Though if the developer consider this counter-intuitive I'm willing to concede this point. – Liyang HU, on April 22, 2009 12:35

iknowthat's reply to "4OD on Linux??" was just promoted to the most useful! Liyang HU and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
this is because it uses the Windows Media Player and Microsoft digital right management. They have to use this to protect the programmes from being pirated which would break the rules imposed by the people who own the copyright such as the movie studios and people like emdemol who actually make the programs. Unlike the BBC, channel 4 doesnt actually make its own programs so it cant just do what it likes with them.

Andy: apologies on behalf of the other users above. Might it make sense to have a ‘report a problem’ button on the website which logs the User-Agent string?
Anyway, I have the same problem. 4oD seems to think I'm not in the UK; I beg to differ...
I'm on OS X, and have tried both Firefox and Safari. My ISP is Be*, my IP address is 87.194.136.165 (tattershall.liyang.hu).
The RIPE records for my IP range shows it's in the UK; every IP geolocation lookup service I've tried also says I'm in the UK. (Including MaxMind's, which I gather is the most commonly-used one.)
How does 4oD determine where I supposedly am anyway?

Someone wrote a GreaseMonkey script to scrape the data off the relevant pages to produce OFX output: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6976
Sadly it doesn't work anymore, but I'll be looking at fixing that.-
