same thing, except I am trying to set my tweets to private, but it happens for any setting. my twitter account is andywest

@jannaw, this is fixed. I sent a password reset to the email account associated with your Twitter account, and you should now be able to log in successfully. – crystal, on September 26, 2008 18:51

@jannaw: it looks like your email address is associated with a deleted account, @jlweber. Normally, you could restore your old account, change the email address to free it up for use on your current account, and delete the old account again. Unfortunately restore is broken for the moment.

You can either change the email address on your current account, or I can permanently delete your old account. If I do this, there will be no possibility of future recovery. Let me know what you'd like to do :)

Thanks serendipify. I tried that and it worked for me too. The problem is, now I can't change my email back to the old one. I get the same error, "Email must not already be in use". I would much rather be using the old email for my twitter alerts, not the one I had to change it to.

I'd still like someone at Twitter to address this problem please.

I had the same problem too, and I changed my e-mail to something else and it worked. I don't know what really happened.
