lofty replied on September 15, 2009 04:21 to the question "How do I get my website listed with XMarks?" in Xmarks:
Hi Reuben and Cities2night,
We're happy you want to be included in Xmarks.com! We haven't released any details on how sites get included, but Nate was correct -- it's based on the bookmark activity of Xmarks users. We look at the folders and tags that users have assigned to a site to decide what topics to list it in, and give it a ranking in that topic based on how much bookmark activity we see.
At some point we plan to add a "Submit your site" feature so site owners can add their site more quickly. But in the meantime we hope you'll encourage your users to try out Xmarks and tag your site with the topic you'd like to be included in.
Thanks for your interest!
Dave
p.s. Cities2night, you'll be happy to learn that philly.cities2night.com is already listed, and is #189 in "Nightlife" -- http://www.xmarks.com/site/philly.cit...

Hi Miles,
I think your suggestion applies to GetSatisfaction in general and is not specific to Xmarks. I suggest you re-post over at http://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfa...
Thanks!

Hi Michael,
We don't have any current plans to extend beyond AdSense in the short-term, but I'm sure our plans will evolve over time. If you'd like to give us your contact info, please send an email to our info@xmarks.com address and we'll get in touch if CPM banner advertising enters the roadmap.
Thanks,
Dave
lofty asked a question in Apple on June 04, 2009 16:35:
Is there an app to sleep the iphone? My iphone sleep/wake button stopped working. I've tried all manner of jiggling and blowing air to try to get it to work, to no avail, and I'm tired of always having to wait 60 seconds for it to fall asleep on its own. I'm wondering if there is an app that I can download that will put the iphone to sleep. The app store search for "sleep" and "sleep button", etc. just brings up apps that help you fall asleep.

The quickest fix for this problem is to upgrade to the latest version of our client from http://download.xmarks.com. Please give this a try and post again if it doesn't work for you. Thanks for your patience!

MainSoft's reply to "the user is the loser" was just promoted to the most useful! lofty and 6 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Hi,
What did you expect? Developing and maintaining a synchronization system like FoxMarks is a full time job. You don't pay for the software, right? So how are those people maintaining FoxMarks supposed to make a living? Who pays the hardware where your bookmarks are stored? Who pays the people providing you with free technical support? Would you yourself work for free? Do you think that the people at FoxMarks/XMarks are true spirits living from glory, fame and clear water?
Let's put an end to a myth : one way or another, you always have to pay for the services that you use. If you don't pay with money, you have to pay by paying taxes, by looking at ads or by accepting to participate in a data collection process (which XMarks actually is now).
If you don't like this idea, you can always develop a synchronization system yourself. Or pay a developer to do so.
As a software developer, I'm really fed up with this strange behavior of many Internet users: I wan't to get everything for free(software, music, images,services,...) but I'm not myself ready to accept to do any work without being paid for it. Remember: people telling you that software should and must be free (in the full sense of the word) are liars. Every work must be compensated one way or another. All the rest is gossip.
Regards.

Sorry you're disappointed in the UI for our Profiles feature. We know it's not the simplest interface, and have hoped to do some user testing and optimize the UI for common cases like this one. If we do make any changes, you'll probably hear about it first on our blog at http://blog.xmarks.com.

Are you seeing "nonsecure content warning" messages? If so, please try upgrading to the latest version (1.0.7) at http://download.xmarks.com. Sorry for the trouble you're having, but hopefully our latest bug fixes will resolve these problems. If not, please write back with the text of the error messages you're seeing. Thanks!

lofty reported a problem in Get Satisfaction on April 07, 2009 21:55:
Why is the site so slow?Wow, the site is nearly unusable today. It's taking me forever just to get this problem posted. People pages in particular are just timing out. What's going on?
lofty replied on April 07, 2009 21:45 to the question "sync failed" in Xmarks:
Sorry, you've hit a rare synchronization bug. This problem crops up when a bookmark or folder is deleted on one computer and the same bookmark is moved lower in the hierarchy on another computer. We've seen this problem before and hope to fix it soon.
The best option in the short term is to do an Upload from the computer that has the most current bookmarks set. You can do this from the Xmarks Settings dialog under the Advanced tab. This will overwrite the bookmarks on the server and eliminate the synchronization command that is causing the error in the client. Let us know if this doesn't work for you!
lofty replied on April 07, 2009 21:20 to the problem "login.foxmarks.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed. (Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)" in Xmarks:
It appears this is affecting users who have the "Encrypt All" setting in their Foxmarks Connection Security tab. The best solution is to upgrade to the latest version of Foxmarks/Xmarks which can be found at http://download.xmarks.com. Please let us know if this doesn't work for you!
