Paste the URL into the What are you doing? box and Twitter makes it a TinyURL if the URL is longer than 30 characters (or 40 - see mdy's reply). However, make sure that your tweet is still 140 characters or less with the original link. If it isn't, go to TinyURL yourself - or some other service like xrl.us or rly.cc/s/ - and shorten the link before pasting it into your tweet.

Yes, you have to use the HEX Code to choose your colors. Here is a link to a website that will give you the HEX Code for the colors you want to use.
http://www.webmonkey.com/reference/Co...
When trying to add a picture for a background be sure to;
Choose a background color AND
Browse your picture and have both boxes checked for "Use Background Picture" and "Tile"
These HEX Codes will also help you to choose the following colors needed for "Text Color", "Name Color" and etc.
Hope this helps you. If not, maybe someone else will be able to give you some more advice.

hellofacey, you are WONDERFUL!!! It took me almost a month to get back in and try your suggestion and guess what....IT WORKED!!! Funny how we have to add a background color inorder to get the graphic to work, but hey, whatever it takes to get the job done! Thanks much for letting us know because now I can be "thankful" too. I had trouble for days... I had the right size image, logged out and in... tried everything every one suggested, then I realized you have to set all the colors you want as well as pick your image, like text color, background color and so forth... Then my image showed up. I was about to give up and just make my profile the colors I wanted it but that is what made the image pop up. Hope that helps someone.

I have tried several different graphics all under 800kb. I have checked the appropriet boxes. I have saved after each one. I have logged out and back in. I have even shut my computer down and brought it back up several times and I have been trying to get a graphic in my background for two days now. Is there an answer to this problem somewhere? Can someone help me?

The rule is a max of 30 characters. Details from the FAQ here...
http://help.twitter.com/index.php?pg=...
Does Twitter allow html in web updates?
No. We escape all html for security purposes. However, if you paste in a link that is less than 30 characters, we'll post it in its entirety. If it's longer than 30 characters, we'll convert it to a tiny URL.
Why does Twitter use tiny URL?
Tiny is tidy! Tiny URL takes long, ugly, 30+ characters links with an obscene amount of punctuation, such as ? or &, and converts them to slim, trim, tidy, pretty, Twitter links that mesh well with our 140 character limit.
