I reckon you might enjoy BookCrossing.com - I'm linking to my journal entries in my bookmark notes. Admittedly, this is a little clumsier than what you're looking for, but BookCrossing is a great hobby.

I have a similar thing on my badge - it lists my latest unfinished book as finished in 1970. As soon as I send the message to mark it as finished, the date goes all sensible. Hope that helps!

I particularly like this because sometimes TweetDeck goes all freaky and sends three of the same message, and now one of my books that has been the victim of such merciless duplication isn't showing up on the velocity of reading graphs and I'm left to wonder why!

I'm on Firefox 3.0.8 on a Mac OS X 10.5.6.
